I am trying to obtain a profile sketch of the King in an attempt to make a mold. Anyone feeling artsy?
Basically what I'm doing is trying to make the mold and then we can experiment with using some less expensive metals like pewter or a tin alloy for coins. So we'd be somewhere in between tokens and coins minted with precious metals, they should be a good size and we could produce them for a fraction of the cost, helping us to keep the currency in line with their beer backing.

Could the coins be punched out of flattened beer cans?

I have never attempted to cast and mold a coin before, and I want to see if it can be done in my workshop. If it can be, then we can decide if we wish to pursue a mass-minting of coins or scrap the whole idea.

It could be argued that we don't NEED any form of currency, we've been getting along very well without for so long. However, if we find that we have the capability to produce currency locally to where the cost is actually manageable, I think that is something that would weigh in heavily on the market.
Currently, we are at the mercy of professional printers and mints. In is hard to justify using a coin or a bank note to buy a beer when the cost of which costs more than that. I think some good old fashion cost-saving can help move the project in the right direction.

Any possible way I can help to bring this essential project back to life? Cough up a bunch of cash? That seems to be the sticky point.

In regard to the stamp issue, I was considering not going with the production company that had been long discussed and just printing stamps 30 to a sheet on regular address labels. The price would be right and a production run could be short. May be able to get that done by the 30th anniversary of Independence Day.

That way we can legally stick 'em on on our letters next to an actual stamp (well in the UK at least, don't know about elsewhere). It would be similar to using the 'par avian' label.

Just wanted to poke my head in here and say that the activity on stamps and currency that this thread (and Sir X's individual December 26 project thread!) represents pleases me a lot. The initiative to get the Royal Bank & Post up and running and producing for our nation was something that began way back during my Seneschalsqab, and I truly hope that it is now moving toward fruition.
Let me know how I can help, even if it is just to suggest persons, places, and things to represent on the reverse of the bills.

Any updates on the banknotes project? I don't mean to badger the Royal Bank on this issue, nor anyone helping in this project, only to ensure it's continuance toward fruition.
