PETITION FOR A HAPPIER KINGDOM
WHEREAS the forums of Talossa are an important part of Talossan life, and
WHEREAS some citizens don't want to see the heat of political debates and discussion, and
WHEREAS these discussion sometimes spill over in to all areas of the forums, and
THEREFORE, I submit this petition to the owner and moderators of the forums know as 'Wittenberg' to please create a new board to be called 'Political Debates' (or something similar) in the grouping of Governmental. This will allow the hardcore politics to play out without everyone having to see them, unless they so choose. In turn, this will hopefully boost the morale of the Kingdom and bring in new citizens.
I humbly submit this petition to the general population for signatures on January 24, 2013.

I oppose this. Political debate is the bedrock of Talossanity. It should remain on our main board in full-force and out-in-front for all the world to see that we are more than just a bunch of namby-pamby tribbles who talk about nothing more than unicorns and rainbows. We are real people, and our forums need to reflect this.
Your concern over whatever drama may be happening as of late is noted, however. That being said, what I ask from everyone is to (continue to) be honest and forthright in your candor and not throw daggers.

And I stridently disagree with you. I believe there needs to be a section where every Talossan can express an opinion, and debate other opinions. But every Talossan should have a choice if they want to see those same threads, or if they would prefer to avoid them. Just like when the Hollywood Movie people want to rate movies, and people can choose to see them or not.

1) What about general elections? Campaign threads and the like.
2) I'm kinda siding with GV so far. I also agreed with Deiter's comment earlier in the week regarding free speech. Wittenberg as the main platform for such discussion has worked for years up till now. I think the problem may lie in a lack of Wittiquette adherence and some over the top rhetoric - nothing to do with where it takes place.

What I am suggesting is we have an area where Political Speech in encouraged. I'm also suggesting that we make some areas where people who do NOT wish to see political speech in every single thread. Let's have people know that if they go into Wittenberg, they don't have to read inter-party or intra-party messages about Politics. If they do, or if they wish to comment on political issues in Talossa, then they know there is an area that encourages that.

I'm not suggesting denying or infringing on Speech. Freedom of speech includes the freedom of where to say it. It's like saying an American can only partake in political debate in front of the Capitol but not in the pub. The freedom comes not just in what we want to say, but, also in the choice of venue. Wittenberg is the most public area we have and thus this plan would deny citizens from making political statements in the most public place. They don't need to read threads they don't want to. If they hate political talk that much, why are they continuing to read an entire thread that they don't want to read? If I buy a newspaper I read the headlines and into blurb. If it's not for me then the rest of that article is skipped. Why? Again, If people don't like politics that much then they need not read. I also echo GV again here. Politics is a MASSIVE part of Talossa. Why brush it aside like this?

1) What about general elections? Campaign threads and the like. For the General Election, I'm all up for having debates on Witt. Outside of the Election, however, I would be more inclined to post in a political board rather than on the main board. This is just me personally; if someone else wanted to post on the main board, go for it.
