What if I founded a new party proposing to reunify with the Republic, or to overthrow the King and form a republic, and convinced 10 or 15 newbies to vote for it? (Has anyone read the Ar Päts lately?)
Just think about it! Being totally innocent concerning Talossan politics, during the short period of two weeks a prospective citizen is practically thrown to the lions, running the (not distant or improbable) risk of being manipulated or used.
By saying this, I'm not intent on getting newbies to feel like they're not allowed to participate. A probationary period of, say, four months, however, would assure (for both Talossa's and the citizens' good) that the newbies wouldn't be exposed to influences that might somehow damage our political institutions and our nation.
They would have enough time to get a good feel of what it's like to be Talossan, and to think twice before joining a party in a hurry and rush into marvelous endeavors full of fantasy that might turn out to be at least a mousetrap.
We promise to struggle to pass a law for the comeback of the probationary period. We don't want to lose with the snap of a finger what we have worked so hard to build.
Don't waste your vote. Vote CCCP!

What were you thinking this probationary period would entail? No political activity for two months or whatever?

Xhorxh,
I think fearmongering (some new citizens have also indicated your party was one of several to engage in pre-citizenship campaigning) is unnecessary but I applaud you on proactive thinking. Perhaps we should look to the summit to start a dialogue on comprehensive reform of the Immigration process.

Brenéir,
I wasn't specifically referring to your party, but affirming that we all need to guarantee that no one will step into quicksand in the future.
Our immigration and election rules are fragile and unsafe, and need to be further worked on. Ample discussion on the subject will be welcomed. We respect above all the inalienable right to freedom of speech.

(some new citizens have also indicated your party was one of several to engage in pre-citizenship campaigning) Although this may or may not be true, I just wanted to state that I think it'd be best not to begin another politically partisan battle about the whole affair here. There is that possibility that, like myself, many people who were a part of "pre-citizenship campaigning" did it unknowingly and it was truly an honest mistake. Instead of tossing around accusations, I think we should make a note of these events, and a.) revive the old traditions that many people credit to a politically stable Talossa and b.) work to reform the election and immigration systems.

I personally despise a monarch but have no problems with King John specifically. I just hate having someone totally above others.

A parliamentary/constitutional monarchy like the Kingdom of Talossa limits the political power of the monarch, and he is only a part of an intricate political system.

I know but even so, it would be nice if no one had any supremacy over the other.

That's called anarchy, my friend. Whether it be by royalty or election, the government always has some amount of "supremecy" in the governing of the nation over average Joe.
Additionally, as the reign (err... removal) of King Robert II showed, the monarch isn't exactly "all-powerful" over the people. Benevolence is the key to maintaining power, the "checks-and-balances" system exists even in monarchies.

Not anarchy. At least if everyone was elected it would ensure that no one could legitimately argue against the said official. If a king or queen wish to, they can declare anything they want without objection.

He can veto bills (which can be overidden) and appoint a few people to office, that's about it. P.P.S. If I see one more Ann Coulter ad on Witt I might have to kill myself...anti-semite...
