Well, I vote for. I disagree that the bill is forcing people to "serve" Christ; I think the purpose is to place Talossa under His protection and guidance. if you don't believe He exists, then what's the harm? And if you *do* believe He exists, then why wouldn't you want that? Why are you forcing your religion on me? Why are you forcing your religion on Talossa? Why are you not having Thor look after us, too?

THEREFORE be it resolved by the Ziu of the Kingdom of Talossa that the following amendment to Organic Law be recommended to the citizenry for ratification:
Section 1 of Article III of Organic Law ("King") be amended to add the following first sentence: The eternal and everlasting (until Arda Healed will come) King of Talossa is Manwe.

Owen, I respectfully disagree...greatly. This amendment seeks to install as our 'paramount leader' a religious deity. Good sense as enshrined in the Organic Law argues wholeheartedly for secular government in which the pursuit of the Divine according to one's own conscience is protected - a protection I believe in which God wholeheartedly approves.

Oh, there may well be a theological objection to this Amendment - one I would argue, or Manus would, and maybe even the King, and heck maybe even Al would argue - and it may be a problem that it DEPOSES OUR KING as far as I can tell, but I don't think it contravenes the Covenant, because it appoints an historical person to the position. It does not, technically, install Christianity as a state institution, nor does it even require Jesus to be resurrect (and therefore have been accurate in claims about himself) - the Amendment does not require Jesus to be alive.
Now, if Al removed the phrase "Our Lord and Saviour" - which are still within limits, as they are simply designated titles, not legally substantive, but definitely do press the limits - it'd be even more clearly within legal limits.
You might object, as some have, that this is equivalent to declaring any other religious figure or fictional figure or figure of controversial truth value as King. You're right, and you are free to vote against this, or propose an alternative, as V has done. This may be a theologically wrong Amendment, it may be morally objectionable to the non-Christians here, but it is not, by my reading, in breach of the Covenant - just as V's proposal of Satan as King till 2015 is not illegal.

This amendment proposal is meant to be an endorsement of a religious point of view. That would violate the freedom of conscience. That would make it inOrganic.

if you don't believe that's what this bill will do, then why not pick another religious figure instead of Christ? I vote that L. Ron Hubbard be declared King of Talossa. He certainly seems to watch over Tom Cruise. And we might get some money out of it.

This proposal and the reaction of most people to it, remind me of the attempt to make Miestra Queen. Are you comparing Miestra to Jesus? ;D I probably bear more resemblance to Brian of Nazareth, or at least his Welsh girlfriend who's now mayor of Aberystwyth.

Why are you not having Thor look after us, too? In Njal's Saga, one Icelander claims to have heard that Thor challenged Jesus to a fight and Jesus was too chicken even to show up. However, it's probably more likely that he was too busy hanging with his buddies Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk.

Wait a second, I thought Xenu was King of Kings here on Teegeeack? Stop squirreling the OTIII materials! You know full well that Xenu was trapped in a mountain behind an electronic forcefield by the surviving loyal officers, you suppressive person.

These are very slim technical grounds, and amount to contravention of the fairly obvious intent and result of the bill. "Your Honor, yes, it's true that I shot him with my shotgun. But I didn't kill him! I just put some holes in him, so maybe that's assault, and then he just happened to bleed to death!"
