I intend to follow in the footsteps of the person who translated this classic comedic routine into Latin by translating it into El Glheþ Talossan. But, before I begin this great undertaking, I have a few questions about translation. "shortstop," "left/center/right field," "left/center/right fielder," and "catcher." I'll keep you updated on my progress, and I'd like some people to PM me about proofreading it.

Thanks. Also, would I just say "Abbott es Costello," or would I "Talossify" their names? ("Abaþ es Costeglho," maybe?)

Hmm... I think it'd be cool to Talossify their names.
Abbott would be Äbot Costello would be Costello

Ben was working on a big list of sports terms when he left. He posted a snippet of it on Witt. I'll have to see if I can find it, and whether it contained any of the terms you're looking for.

Thanks! Guess there were fewer words than I (thought I) remembered, and all basketball-related. Oh well. For "shortstop" I would suggest interbaseu. For "catcher," I agree with Dréu that auceps is fine. For the other terms, we should start by determining what "field" is, in the baseball sense. I suggest camp. This is defined in Talossan as field as in a field of study, but I think we can expand it to mean a playing field as well, since that sense is not assigned to any of the other "field" words. It'll look like the word used for a baseball field in most other Romance languages too. Alternatively, we could call it the xhardeneu (garden), and the fielders would become xhardeneirs, which would be like (I think) Spanish and Portuguese. If "the field" is el camp and "the outfielders" are els campeirs (or els campeirs externais, to be more precise), then you would just add adjectives ( sinistral, central, and drept) to create all your other terms. So I'd say "center fielder" would be campeir central.

Those words are so long though...
A leftfielder is: Campeir External Sinistral
Could we abbreviate them: Camp'exte'sis Camp'exte'dre Camp'exte'cen

Those words are so long though... Oh, I don't think you'd need to use external in the names of all the positions. You could just say campeir drept, campeir central, and campeir sinistral -- those are all the campeirs externais who play in the camp external. In Italian, it's the campo esterno, and the players are called esterno sinistro, esterno centro, and esterno destro.
