49RZ9 - Për. Good bill. 49RZ10 - Contrâ. Not so good a bill. Suggestions in our legal code are as Talossan as they come, and I'm not convinced there is any need to change how we do things right now. Plus, the proposed changes leaves things sounding odd and dull--keeping things like they are seems to flow better. All this being said, there are some things in this bill that, if proposed separately, I could easily support: the repeal of H.13, H.15, and either F.27 or F.32. 49RZ11 - Contrâ, same as above. 49RZ12 - Contrâ, for the reasons discussed at length here. We should not create a perception that our liberties can be limited by statutory law, especially where our covenants explicitly say they can't. 49RZ13 - Për, because I don't see anything wrong with it. 49RZ14 - Abstain. I suppose I could appreciate how a female UN Secretary-General would be symbolic, given that nearly everything the UN does is little more than symbolic as well. 49RZ15 - Për. Although I would prefer the RCOR be given an indefinite period of time in which to accomplish the extreme task that is before it, I recognize that this bill is likely the last and only hope for the RCOR given the Seneschal's thoughts on issuing any more PDs to extend the time further. I hope that the RCOR prioritizes certain things, like electoral law reform, so that it can present something before the Ziu by the time August rolls around. 49RZ16 - Contrâ. I don't see where this amendment would change anything at all, and I prefer the current language to what is proposed. I recognize the concern of my colleague from Maritiimi-Maxhestic, who worries that this language change could allow for the King to dissolve the Cosâ early at his own whim, but I don't see why the King wouldn't have the power to do that anyway. Article XIII, Section 4 allows for compelled early dissolution under certain circumstances, but nowhere in OrgLaw does it require the King to not issue Writs of Dissolution, which is a power given to him by Article III, Section 2.

49RZ9 - Per. I have never liked referring to specific other nations in our laws.
49RZ10 - Contra, reluctantly. However, I also would support the vast majority of the proposed changes. I have never liked that some Talossan laws are, as the bill says, not laws at all but advice, and (even though I am the author of the bedpost one, I.2.2) would like to see such "advisory" laws changed exactly as this bill would do. The two that I have a problem with changing are H.15 (this nation needs more, not less, Talossan language!) and F.30 (only because the proposed change loses the -- pardon the pun -- "flavor" of this "law" that has been handed down to us from decades ago. I encourage the Ziu to pursue these clean-ups, even if this initial omnibus fails of passage.
49RZ11 - Per. (Case in point.)
49RZ12 - Contra, convinced by Senator Tresplet's arguments that the bill would be found Inorganic if challenged (and, well, the King would veto it on those grounds too, I imagine). I am not against the intention of the bill, but Senator Tresplet points out that the Third Covenant already provides sufficient protection against bad acts cloaked in religious garb.
49RZ13 - Per.
49RZ14 - Contra. I have never liked Talossan commentary on international issues. First, I don't think the UN is listening to us anyway. Perhaps emulating Senator Tresplet's abstention should be my choice here, but I believe that, as written, the SOTZ is saying, "sure, look at all candidates, but keep in mind you've never chosen a woman, so we think you should give extra consideration to women, hint hint", which implies that even if the best qualified person is male, the Talossan Ziu believes that he should not be chosen over the best-qualified woman, and I don't agree with that, just as I wouldn't agree with it if the gender-roles were reversed. People are people; I don't think we should care which gender someone in some office happens to be, as long as that person is the best person for the job.
49RZ15 - Per.
49RZ16 - Per. I know how lazy our King is, so giving him an extra nine or ten days to issue a Writ of Dissolution cannot be a bad thing.
