Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like the simpleness of the original sample. Add the citizens province and Talossan Since date, I think it would be fine. I'd try and work on a design myself, but I am currently burdened with getting the TalossaWare store up and running, and, hey. It's NHL playoffs time, and my team is going to the conference final. So I'm. a tad preoccupied

I wasn't planning on listing any official titles, including titles of nobility. The card is intended to endure without needing to be re-issued frequently (it's a free service, after all).

Just do whatever you want in a separate layer. I'll edit it to whatever my superiors decide to make it.

Interesting. Are you sure? French for "July" is juillet, which is normally abbreviated juil or juill. Yes - certain... three letter abbreviations are used, despite the usual (free text) abbreviations. So Ferbruary is FEV, April (the month of my birth) is AVR, and so on. It was (like all EU/EEC decisions) a committee decision, which tried to "keep the history, and annoy the fewest number of countries". And, like all EU/EEC decisions, was narrow and ridiculous. <sigh> And I live in the EEC....
...though, of course, my certainty may be misplaced. But that (local language/French) was what I was told. I shall now go and look it up..... ...I've just checked it at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passports_of_the_European_Union - and I was right: local language + French.

But Glüc was talking about his identity card, not his passport. Did you see Epic's example of a Dutch identity card, with AUG for August? EDIT: See here, "fields in Dutch and English": en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_identity_card

Haha, this discussion... but yeah, one of the reason I "guessed" it was Dutch/English is because everything else on there is in Dutch and English as well, including the description that says "Geldig tot/Date of Expiry"

Maybe I should just do a special date for each person. ISO for Justice Tamoran (2016-05-16/XXXVIII), American for me (5/16/2016/XXXVIII), Dutch for Gluc (Maandag, Mei 16), binary for MPF (01101000 01100101 01101100 01110000 ), Revolutionary France for Dama Miestra (28 Floréal CCXXIV), Eastern Orthodox Liturgical Calendar for His Majesty (Celebration of the Martyrdom of the 44 Holy Sabaite fathers, monk-martyrs of the Great Lavra of St. Sabbas the Sanctified, massacred by the Saracens), etc.

But be narrow-minded if you want to.

What's wrong with 2016-05-16/XXXVII? Not horrible, I guess, but 1) it seems odd to have the two years at opposite ends of the date like that, and 2) I don't know if ISO proponents like Ian would consider it compliant with the standard with the added component.

I believe that it is compliant with the standard, as the extra information (the Talossan year) follows, and does not intrude into, the standard date representation. On the same basis, it would be equally possible to have XXXVII/2016-05-17 which puts the two representations of the year together.
