Appointing proxies is more like elected democracies than direct.

Exactly. If we're carrying forward with the idea of DD then we have to find an alternative way of solving absentee officials

It sorta takes away the principles of elected democracies Exactly. If we're carrying forward with the idea of DD then we have to find an alternative way of solving absentee officials I'm confused. You want to have a Direct Democracy with the principles of elected democracy? If you want a hybrid of the two, then proxies are the solution.

When I said "it takes away the ideas of elected democracy" I was referring to delegating your position to someone who hasn't been elected. I was under the impression that we will still be an elected democracy but we will carry out our business in the assembly directly i.e. Simple voting practices, etc. Sorry for causing confusion!

If someone appoint a proxy, that proxy has been "elected" by the person who appointed him.

I just have to point out, the last assembly only had 5 pages of discussion, and this assembly has 9 pages in just 1 and a half months.

What is the procedure for voting on bills?

Majority wins. I've been putting time restrictions of a week on most things - otherwise we end up waiting forever.

Can we start voting on my provincial award bill? I think we should have a bit more discussion on voting reform, though.

The "Great People in the Greatest Province Need to be Recognized" Act
WHEREAS Maritiimi-Maxhestians routinely accomplish noteworthy things, and
WHEREAS these accomplishments currently go unrewarded, as we have no reward to give other than a pat on the back, and
WHEREAS There is no better way reward someone than to let them put a few letters after their name
THEREFORE The "Magnates of Maritiimi-Maxhestic" is hereby established. Citizens of Maritiimi-Maxhestic may be made a Magnate by a 2/3 vote of the General Assembly for exemplary work to improve Maritiimi-Maxhestic or Talossa. Magnates are entitled to the honorific Mmm., which may be displayed after their name.
Voting will close on August 16, 2015 at 11:59PM (Talossan Standard Time). These time limitations are in place so that we may proceed forward with more important matters. We may also choose to expedite the time constraints if a majority vote is achieved before the voting deadline.

I vote Contrâ on this act as it is just adding an additional 'title/position' without any real path to it or a purpose after the issuance. The Assembly can always issue individual titles with the passing of an Act. I do not feel there is a need to add this Act to our laws.

PER. Why would we want to grant individual titles at random? This way, there would be a standard honor that could be bestowed whenever the assembly sees fit.

I also vote against it; M.T. makes a good point. If we want to award this, let's do it individually. I'd also like to note that it makes no sense to have a 2/3 requirement, since that could just be ignored by a majority vote of this body. Any 2/3 requirement would need to go in our constitution. And also, we have a code of law in the Body of Law act, which I have generally just been amending... might be a good idea to stick to it. An early forerunner of the national el Lexhatx.

Any 2/3 requirement would need to go in our constitution. Does that disqualify it from consideration, if it is unconstitutional?
Also, perhaps we should have a regional "hopper-ish" type thread, because I would have liked hearing these comments before I put up the bill for a vote. I would feel bad spamming this thread with a new bill every time I need to make a modification.
