Think that could be arranged, Hooligan? We definitely need to collect these works, and some thought has been given already to the form of the collection. :-) Initially, I thought you asked if the original work I penned above could be arranged musically, and I wrote this in response: I expect (and hope) so. The lines in each verse are 7, 6, 6, 7 in syllable length, and the second and fourth lines rhyme, meaning that every thirteen syllables rhyme in pairs. Twelve verses is rather long for a carol, but maybe it's only six, or four, if the verses I wrote are actually grouped in twos or threes to form a single choral verse of 8 or 12 lines. This would allow for some variety in the tune, more, perhaps than four lines would. (Of course a repeated four-line tune didn't hurt Angels We Have Heard On High, but obviously it has that awesome refrain between verses, and I have no refrain here -- maybe that is something that is needed.) (I also did think that in song, some of the verses might be omitted without effect, such as the verse about Elizabeth's pregancy with John the Baptist, and in fact, any one or more of the verses in which Gabriel tells Mary of her calling. This would help shorten it for treatment as a carol, and in fact, the many ways in which verses could be selected to either be performed or omitted recommends it.) Yes, I hope it can be put to music. And the final l in Natal is pronounced like a w, so the final syllable sounds like the exclamation "ow" (except "ow" tends to start with a-in-cat, but here you want a-in-father instead). |
