The song was written from the perspective of late Quebec Minister of Labour Pierre Laporte while kidnapped by the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) during the October Crisis of 1970.

Makes me think back to how it was in the 80s, where the videos were cheesy,but music video channels just played music videos. It was great to turn on MuchMusic and see constant music. No game shows, no TV shows, just rock, pop and metal.

While attending highschool in 1987 in Kelowna, British Columbia, brothers Tom and Chris Hooper met Kevin Kane. They all hit it off instantly, and formed the short-lived punk outfit called Kill Pigs. With the name change to Grapes of Wrath -- after the classic book and movie nobody had read or seen -- an entirely new sound came also:

Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor (both lead vocalists and guitarists) met in high school and became great friends. After university, when all their other friends were starting to get jobs, they decided to form a band. Thirteen studio albums followed (so far...).

"Starseed was written in five minutes. Chris [Eacrett] came up with the bass line and the vibe was so heavy we just wrote it." It only took the band twenty more minutes to record the song.
