Just a note about Help:IPA, It says that sewer is [ sju:.*r ] which would mean it is pronounced SYOO-wer. I know that yods (another name for a y as a consonant) can be left unwritten, such as in cute, but definitely in en-GB, I have never heard one in sewer. Maybe in en-US ?? Just removing the j would be how I have always said/heard it in English. Note due to limitations I have written schwas as *

I assume you're right about the word not typically having a yod in British English, but typically yods have dropped faster in America. If anything, the yod should be less common over here.

Then why Is it in the IPA: Help
Oh and I no about en-US's dropping of yods. You, for strange reasons such as history and time, say [du: ti:] not [dju: ti:] and [tu:s deɪ ] not [tʃju :s deɪ ].

Then why Is it in the IPA: Help Apparently it came from Wikipedia that way (many such documents were not created from scratch for TalossaWiki). It's an interesting question as to why it appeared that way in Wikipedia. Especially seeing as how it not only contains the yod (which is more British) but is rhotic (which is more American), and considering that the Wiktionary entries for sewer that have yod also are explicitly made non-rhotic.

Once you become a citizen, if you want to help fix things like that, it would be awesome, Matthew I'm afraid that when I built all the infrastructure for the wiki, I often used shortcuts, like just modifying the help text on Wikipedia. Sorry if I screwed up!

Iustì Carlüs Canun, could you sticky this, please? That way anyone who needs help getting in the wiki or whatever could just post here.

Thanks for the heads-up - I've already contacted Danihel Teziun about it.

I'm going to fire up FileZilla and put up a new copy of our settings, since that apparently did the trick last time. If the error is in the PHP, it's beyond me and we'll have to wait for Teziun.

Further update: looks like the problem is that the server updated their Perl stuff, which broke the MagicWord function (that's the bit of MediaWiki that lets you do stuff like put {{date}} and have the date appear). We might be able to fix it a bit, or we might have to bite the bullet and upgrade our MediaWiki.

Okay, I did a quick fix to the PHP code that was causing the problem. The wiki is back up and running normally. Please report any more unusual behavior or error messages here.

Strike that... some pages are still broken. I will continue to work on this.

Okay, final update on this for now:
There don't appear to be any more hacks to the PHP code that can get this any more fixed. So we have most pages working, but a few not loading and many behaving weirdly. A lot of templates depend on now-broken magic words, which is messing up a lot of pages which depend on those templates. Unfortunately, we have also surpassed my own modest abilities.
As best I can tell, the long-dreaded and long-avoided full upgrade might be our only solution. I'm on the horn to Danihel Teziun to ask him to do this.
