Estimats Zérétistáes; citaxhiêns amats dàl Provinçù Liveradâ da Fiôvâ, es oðreux Talossáes adest; és toct i amici da Talossa, dal livertà és del democrätsia!
I will keep this brief, as I have grabbed a few minutes rest from my busy day-job and study schedule due to my body aching all over from the first practice of the new Gaelic football season.
The ZRT is still the major opposition party in Talossa. We are still the Party of the Talossan Republic - the Republic of the future, that is. A former member has attempted to start his own Republican party - we note that he pretty much votes with us on every Clark, so perhaps, dear Mximo, on devrait discuter une réunification de la famille républicaine? Envoie-moi une message!
The ZRT is still the core around which will have to be formed any alternative government to the RUMP - or, should I say in the current Cosâ, the RUMP backed up by the usual crowd of suspects who say "I don't care about the ideology or the personnel, just as long as I get my own little ministerial office."
The ZRT is the flagship of an Alternative Talossa. But not just ANY old alternative Talossa.
Although our Manifesto plank - which I hope we retain - states that the RUMP should be made to go into opposition for a while, to teach them humility and to prove that Talossa can change governments without need for a bloody take-over, I must say that "time for a change" is not adequate reason for the voters to do so.
Let us give the devil his due. For the most part, the RUMP have been adequate administrators of the current set-up of this Kingdom of ours. Naturally, since they more or less helped build it since the abdication of el Regeu Mäts.
We who want a different Talossa can't achieve it by appeal to personality. We can't achieve it by "we'll do exactly what the RUMP are doing now, only different and cooler." And we certainly can't achieve it by a simple "unification of the Opposition".
We need a different political project. A radically democratic political project. And that's where the faultlines line.
Let me be clear. I'm a die-in-the-ditch "Oh God, No Surrender, No King", Lorentzian Republican. But I realise that we're in a minority. ALSO: I realise that there are many good supporters of an Alternative Talossa who either support the monarchy as a pillar of our nation, or aren't too fussed either way.
I speak mainly of our colleagues in the Moderate Radical Party, and in the New Peculiar Way. I would love to see MCs da Schir or Vercáriâ make a guest speech, by the way!
I declare that the Alternative Talossa must be a radically democratic alternative. We, the ModRads and the Peculiarists are all united on that issue: less authoritarian use of governmental power; cutting of red tape; more power in the hands of elected representatives; civil rights.
At the moment, the Radical Democratic forces in Talossa are not a majority. But - I want to argue, esteemed fellowcountrypeoples - it is the only political project which has a chance of building a majority which excludes the RUMP.
There is no point in a "joint opposition" so broad that it becomes a "pot pie". Such a government would be a waste of time, and would last one term, giving the RUMP nothing but a six- or seven-month holiday from administration.
But if we can build the Radical Democratic Alternative - we could realign Talossan politics altogether.
I want a single Republican party in Talossa; and I want a Radical Democratic Alternative of all those who think Talossa is currently too authoritarian, too hidebound by supra-entrenched constitutional law and fossilised tradition. Starting from this Convention, the ZRT must reach out to all Talossans of good will; show leadership combined with humility to build an ideological alternative to the Talossa we have today.
Let us be proud to be Republicans; but not too proud to realise that whether or not John Woolley owns the job of Head of State as a personal possession is a lesser question, for most Talossans, than questions of international norms of responsible government and free and fair elections.
Let's elect a new leadership which can make a Radical Democratic Alternative not only happen, but become a majority; and let's build a manifesto which can inspire all parties on our side of the spectrum to better it in terms of attractiveness, and all parties on the other side to steal it in a vain effort to catch up.
Så vivádrâ Talossa! Så vivádrâ Talossa democrätic! Så vivádra Talossa liveradâ! Så vivádra Talossa, Repúblicâ del fütür!
