A theme for an upcoming article for the ZRT publication Nouâ Talossa. The theme being that those of us who lived through the Republic of 2004-12 may look towards another Republic, in the future, covering all Talossans in one democratic yet pompous and, yes, even, peculiar nation-state. This Republic, like the Irish Republic proclaimed at Easter 1916 and never quite brought into actual being, is the repository of our fondest hopes and dreams.
One thought. Imagine a constitutional compromise where Talossa were to remain a Kingdom until such time as John I leaves the throne (by abdication or going to meet his ancestors), and at that point a Republican system would start...

I've always been fascinated by the Hungarian concept of the crown as Head of state. Literally the crown as spiritual force. The crown itself, or the empty throne, should that ever happen.

Maybe another compromise could be a double head of the state, with a King for traditional and ceremonial stuff, and an elected President who is the political leader. Maybe the two of them and yet another elected guy / gal at the helm could be called the House of Keys (Penguinean reminiscence here).

The Republic is no more. The Republic came crashing down on April 20th, 2012, the day we all became citizens of the Kingdom.
No matter how hard you try, the Kingdom will never be the Republic. We knew that when we made the decision to come here. The best we can ever hope for is to make Fiôvâ the Republic we all seem to miss.
It's over, friends. Let it go.

I don't think we should adopt such a defeatist attitude with regards to this idea at all. We all joined the Republic for one reason or another, so there's no reason to just let it go. If something's worth fighting for then why should we just give up?

I firmly believe that we can create something new, together with all the other Talossans 'round here. Peculiarist optimism!

I wish you the best of luck but I highly doubt that there will ever be a republic again.

Do you believe that's a reason to sufficiently justify giving up?

Yes.

I suspect that's where you and I differ quite a bit.

I suspect my opinion and the opinion of Fiova in general differ quite a bit.

I don't pretend to speak for Fiova on this. There are some prominent Fiovans who do not want a republic or a monarcho-presidential compromise.

Here's my question. What was the point of reunision? If we wanted a Republic, why didn't we just stay a Republic?
I know, I know, lack of manpower.

The answer is: what if we could persuade 30 or 40 other Talossans of the Republican cause, which we could never do as a separate state?
