It looks like Canada will have a minority Liberal government; with the NDP holding the balance of power. The new Conservative (essentially the extreme right-wing Reform Party) did not do as well as expected- in fact, the popular vote of the Conservatives went down considerably. This minority govenment should prove to be very beneficial to Canadians. Some of Canada's most beloved social programs came into being from Liberal minority governments working with the NDP (ex. public healthcare, Canada Pension, affordable housing programs, etc.) Here is the breakdown of the results: Seats Percentage of Vote LIB 34 37.14% CON 95 29.47% BQ 53 12.68% NDP 23 15.26% OTH 0 5.37% I realize that these are not complete results, a few things may change and there are I think a few percentahe points missing at this point. These are the total as of 1:00 AM my time. For more information, check out www.cbc.ca

Here are the final results:
LIBERAL- 135 CONSERVATIVE- 99 BQ- 54 NDP- 19 INDEPENDENT- 1 OTHER- 0
This changes things slightly. The Liberals and the NDP combined no longer have a majority, so they will need the support of another party to hold on to power- at least the support of one more MP. The BQ might support some of their legislation, and it is possible in such a circumstance for one MP to cross party lines. It should be noted that the Independent that was elected is a former Reform Party member, so it has been speculated that he might join the Conservatives.
