Below is an email I wrote to APM about KRI's interview on December 6th calling him out on his factual misrepresentation of the original Kingdom of Talossa. I invite and encourage all of you to do the same.

To Whom it May Concern,
On December 6th, 2010, a story called "Its Great to be King, Sometimes" was published. It featured an audio interview with a Mr. R. Ben Madison of Milwaukee Wisconsin in which he discussed his creation, a micronation called the "Kingdom of Talossa" which he founded as a 14-year old in 1979. Most of what he said in the interview was true. However, Mr. Madison does fail to mention that he abdicated the throne and renounced his citizenship in the Kingdom of Talossa on August 14th, 2005. This renunciation of citizenship is preserved here...http://talossa.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=582&page=1
So when he claims to have started picking up Talossa again, he did so illegitimately and, therefore, his version of the Kingdom of Talossa is not the original as he claims it to be. I am a citizen of the true Kingdom of Talossa so I know this to be true. I will provide any further information you require to help you in rectifying this error. I do not want your listeners to e mislead by Mr. Madison's skirting of the truth.
Sincerely, Philip Mungai

Thanks for doing this, Flip -- I'll be doing the same. The email to send to is:
thestory@wunc.org
It'd be great if others sent in their words, as well, and if you can share your letters here, maybe it'll help inspire others!

Can I add...
it might lend more weight if we send these emails from our KoT.net accounts where we have them.

Wow, I am huge fan of Dick Gordon and subscribe to The Story on iTunes. If you are a regular listener please do not forget to mention that either. He is a wonderful interviewer and would not be shocked if he responds quickly to our emails.

My letter, sent: Your story of December 6th, 2010, called "Its Great to be King, Sometimes," featured Ben Madison, the founder of the Kingdom of Talossa. In his interview, Madison does a great disservice to his creation, which, in August of 2005, he abandoned. The other citizens of the Kingdom, however, continued to embrace the nation and it thrives today, based upon the same founding principles and documents that Madison himself created.
That Madison chose to abandon his nation because it grew beyond its humble beginnings in a teenager's bedroom is an unfortunate outcome. One might think that Madison would have been proud of the success of his model. For him to now claim to be the true Talossa, after he abdicated his throne and renounced his citizenship -- based on the model of governing he himself created -- is confusing at best, and frankly downright asinine.
We, the modern citizens of the Kingdom of Talossa, continue to live the dream Madison envisioned, despite his confusing choice to give up on it.

In the story, Ben laments that Talossa did not become the "self perpetuating patriotic endeavor" that he had hoped it would be. What a fool -- that's precisely what we have!

Poor Ben. Talossa became what he wanted it to be and then he found that he didn't really want that at all.
