The "Fair Vote" people were quoted in the WSJ article, btw.

Where exactly has IRV been employed on the Federal level?

Where exactly has IRV been employed on the Federal level? Australia for elections to the House of Representatives.

While this may be employed in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, the arguments against the system seem much more realistic than the arguments for IRV.
I too will vote CONTRA on this measure.

This is a democracy, so everyone is free to vote as they like. Just relax and wait for the final results.

Nobody is impeding that right, we are simply letting Dreu know how many CONTRA votes he can count on. This is the Hopper, where such a thing is allowed.
So just relax and wait for the final results.

I am glad that we are discussing the possibility of finding, and perhaps employing, a less imperfect voting system than our present one. This much-discussed thread has, in my opinion, revealed valid arguments for and against IRV. As excited as I am about vigorously exploring options, I cannot, as of yet, place my confidence in IRV. I do, however, hope the discussion continues.
I applaud Dreu for presenting and supporting this idea, because I think it's an interesting one. I like the idea of discussing voting systems, and I like the idea of someone sponsoring new ideas for discussion. I (apparently alone) am completely un-perturbed by the tone turning hostile. We are creatures of passion, and sometimes, that passion turns to anger. Passion is relevant in all its forms.

I make the suggestion that this type of voting system be utilized at the provinical level and generate some type of track record prior to any attempt at legislation at the level of the entire realm. It is quite possible that it has merit, but I would not support experimentation at this level.
