I admire you, Sir Fritz.
You , along with others, suffer(ed) the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune , brought upon you by a man that once might have been called a friend - only to have their name dragged publicly through the mud.
It takes a better man than me, to walk away from something like that. Yeah, I'm Buddhist... but I'm also Irish.
And I don't like others speaking ill of my friends. (Me? heck, I'm used to it).
But thanks , Sir Fritz. If you can move on, so can the rest of us.
Even if Mad King Ben can't put the past behind him- you can.
And that's all I need to know.

You should sue Ben for libel and defamation of character. That is something that cannot be tolerated. I will not sit by and watch my countrymen and countrywoman be treated in this manner. I agree. Perhaps the use of government funds could be applied for such a purpose. This is only a suggestion and because I am not an expert on the Organic Law or on the business of the Minister of Finance.

XPB --
I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but of the two people in that exchange, you are the one who is Talossan.
You became Talossan when you were granted citizenship in the Kingdom of Talossa, and your yeoman service to this nation ever since is something we all know of. The citizenship you hold was granted legally by all the laws and customs of this nation, customs and laws actually instituted by, often even written by, King Robert I -- our national laws, traditions, and customs that we still cling to, and which predate the departure of Mr. Madison.
Mr. Madison himself (for reasons still not quite clear to me) not only chose to declare those laws, traditions, and customs not worth following, but also to declare himself not to be Talossan, and in fact to declare that there was no such thing as Talossa (though there it was and here it is, still following the very laws he left behind) and that it was dead.
He was Talossan but renounced it. You are Talossan and embrace it.

Ayesh,
It's been a while since I've been here, so I thought I might begin with an introduction. I'm Eiric Bornatfiglheu, currently serving as the Seneschal of the Talossan Republic. I live in the U.S. state of Georgia, city of Savannah.
Ole King Bobert appears to be rewriting history left and right. Not only rewriting the historical record, but retroactively invalidating many of his own laws. Plus, with the whole issue of the ruddy trademark, he spent quite a bit of time not providing services under the Talossan name, and as such methinks he might find his trademark a bit shaky.
Anyhoo, in order to stick in the Talossan realm. This disregard for history and reality on the part of Ben is precisely the reason that the living tradition of Talossa, which is represented by the current Regipats and the Republic, need to pull some teeth. He walked away from the tradition, and in many ways forfeited the ability to arbit the nature of Talossanity. He stated for a Lonely Planet Guide to Micronations that Talossa no longer exists, at all. Case closed, published public record. He's out.
But those of us within the living tradition that is Talossa should not stand aside and let him have his fun. While he will only thrive from such attention, if sustained, we in the Republic have proposed a joint commission in order to make a statement from Talossa. After this, methinks we should ignore him and let the petulant, vain little bugger whither on the vine.
Best,

After discussing the matter with members of my government, as the Prime Minister, I have decided that for many reasons, none of them at all anti-Republic, official silence is at this time the best defence against Ben, especially as the things he says do not rise to the level of dignifying any official notice. Exercising caution for the moment, the government of the Kingdom is unable to participate in any official public statement concerning its former King. Indeed, even as for responding as a group of individuals only, do we really want to get into a we-say he-says mudfest with someone as enthusiastically mudloving as Ben? Perhaps the less the bear roars, the less the bear-poker will enjoy poking it with his puny stick, and the greater the chance he'll get too close to the den. Hooligan

Seneschal and Cabinet,
Well, I won't pretend not to be disappointed. To do so would be disingenuous. Quite simply, I thought that the government of the Regipats Talossan had a touch more grit than is evident. My disappointment is rooted primarily the that fact that I am evidently wrong.
The Regipats and the Republic form the core of the living Talossan tradition. To countenance such antics from one who abandoned Talossanity entirely is somewhat sad.
But I am sure you have your reasons. And I'm sure you've given it some thought.
Best,

I am sorry to you are disappointed, and that you choose to chalk this decision up to a lack of grit (while I believe this is unfair-chalking, I will allow you to chalk what you wish).
A lot went into this decision. I ask to be trusted that none of what went into it is what seems to be your choice to ascribe. I thank you for acknowledging this.
I myself am disappointed that this affair was not handled privately, as some aspects of this situation are best not discussed publicly.
The government of this Kingdom doesn't play sticks and stones, and is not at all spineless or gutless or lacking in grit.

Should it have been handled privately? Yes and No. I guess the Republic agree's with you Manus. Not a word on their site. I do think the newer citizens of the Kingdom need to see and hear this though. Ben is an intellectual coward and know's he isn't capable of an open debate. That's why his site accepts no e-mail or allows any honest and open discussion. I guess there is no right or wrong in this one.

My apologies, that was bad word choice. Perhaps a little bit more fire in the gullet then, as opposed to grit. Gutless is not my intention, oh no.
I mayhap have learned a first lesson in knighthood, discretion as the better part of valour?
So please. No offense meant.
We have been officially quiet on this, I will admit. The reason my government has issued no official statement is because, quite simply, I do not feel we have the prerogative to do so alone. As we are not the whole of the living Talossan tradition, and I feel that the statement should come from the living tradition as a whole, the Republic will not unilaterally be issuing a statement on this.
As far as the newer citizens needing to hear and see this, I am in full agreement with Sir Fritz. Because of the way business is conducted in Talossa (via internet and correspondence primarily) our nation exists most wholly within the historical record. And that this record is being tampered with is an abomination to me and to the citizenry of the Republic.

...our nation exists most wholly within the historical record. And that this record is being tampered with is an abomination to me and to the citizenry of the Republic. It is an abomination to us all, but I suggest that if former U.S. President Clinton lost his marbles and created a Website asserting or implying that current U.S. President Bush is a Nazi, I do not believe that the government of the United States would consider such a crazy statement (certainly a falsehood and an abomination) to be worthy of its official notice, other than perhaps a smile or the cracking of a joke during a press conference. I thank S:reu Bornatfiglheu for understanding the position of this government, and for his private correspondence on this and other matters. Hooligan

I do agree with the current government in that we should not engage the ciol-paliaçéu any further, but I agree with Sir Fritz in that these matters must be part of the public record.

Fritz, while Talossans on both sides of the issues have their differences, we all agree on at least one thing: you are a mensch and that in your fights against mad Bobby, you have the full support of all of us.
