I'd say paranoia is rampant and it's in the interest of everybody with power -- the government, big business (as if there's a difference these days!) -- to keep it going. In the Milwaukee area right before the US election we had a 'terrorist attack' -- some shadowy figures managed to take the bolts off an electrical transmission tower near the airport; the tower tipped over, cutting off electricity to a couple of suburbs. Immediately there were reports of "mysterious" people going around taking pictures beforehand, not of the tower but of the company that owns the tower. Suburban Milwaukee -- an obvious target for Bin Laden. Suffice it to say, the public blood pressure went up. No suspects were ever found, no arrests were made. And Bush did well in the suburbs. Coincidence? Who knows. Paranoia runs both ways. Ben
