Our annual ritual continues... I'll go first: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 38 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: 24 Should be a good (contentious) game. This is also how I HOPE it will end, with a Pats victory! (I'll never forgive Philly for the infamous "4th and 26")

Don't ask me for a score, but I think New England is going to beat Philly. Not what I want, but what I expect. Amy

Hmmm... Patriots 28, Eagles 13. I agree with Amy though, an Eagles victory would be more interesting!

Personally, I don't get the support for the Eagles expressed here, since they are the team that killed the Packers two seasons ago, but anyway... An Eagles win would be "interesting" only because they are the underdogs and haven't been to the big game in...in...well...it's been a long, long time. A Patriots win would also be interesting, however, because it would cement them as football's latest DYNASTY, and we haven't seen that happen since the early-mid 90s Cowboys. It is increasingly harder and harder to keep a pro football team on top season after season because of the way the game is set up (unlike MLB). So when this happens, it is rare and also "interesting." All that said, I like this particular Pats team because, unlike so many other NFL or pro sports teams, they are truly a TEAM, free of showboating idiots and thug wannabes. Yet another reason to support "the good guys" that the Pats represent, from the GM on down the line.

> Personally, I don't get the support for the Eagles expressed here, since they are the team that killed the Packers two seasons ago, but anyway... That's actually a little part of the appeal, for me -- you gotta give guys credit who can pull off "4th and 26." (At any rate they beat Ed Donatell again this year!) > An Eagles win would be "interesting" only because they are the underdogs and haven't been to the big game in...in...well...it's been a long, long time. And that's the other part of the appeal. I find dynasties kind of boring. Although, to the Pats' credit, everything you say about them is true, and they've held together as a team in an era of selfish free agents. I won't be crushed at all if they win, as I expect them to; I'm just rooting for the other guys. Oh, and Donovan McNabb winning a ring would really piss off Rush Limbaugh. Ben

The Patriots, of course. 38-27. But Darn it Ben, why did you have to throw in that Rush Limbaugh remark? I had him this close to joining Talossa! Oh well, back to the drawin board.

There's only room enough for one ego that big in Talossa, and it's yo-- I mean mine!

Ahem...I think MY ego is also in the running here folks...but anyway on to more important business. I was listening to "Steve the Homer True" on the car radio last night and he was saying - basically 100% - what I am saying and feeling about this game and the Patriots in particular. That is why I root for them, because they are a TEAM, and all of them truly good guys and traditional sportmen professionals, not showboating "It's All About ME"-types. Not that the Eagles are that bad, just that the Pats are more like the old NFL teams of the 60s and 70s and even 80s, God bless 'em! And dynasties are cool when they can be accomplished against such tremendous odds. GO PATS! Pluck the birds!

There are many reasons why the Pats will pluck the birds this Sunday. Perhaps this is the #1 reason:
1. Karma. Loads and loads of karma -- Let's face it, this is Boston's moment in the Sun. The salad days. The golden era. Showtime for Beantown. Nothing but center stage for The Hub. At no risk of hyperbole, the seat of government in Massachusetts happens to be the sports capital of the universe about now.
The Patriots win the Super Bowl last February, and then the planets align for the first time in 86 years and the Red Sox -- the Red Sox, praise be -- win the World Series in October, beating the hated Yankees along the way.
Clearly, this is bigger than any of us. No one can stop the New England Victory Machine at this point. It's fated to be a glorious time to wear the red, white and blue.
I salute you, red, white and blue! Good ol' NFL at its classiest best!

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Chuck Bednarik holds a grudge only slightly larger than his legacy as the last of the 60-minute men. Known for his hard-nosed play and big hits, Bednarik is just as well-known for his biting, blunt diatribes about today's NFL, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and any other topic that reminds him the game isn't the same as when he played. He also is protective of his Hall of Fame legacy. While he boasts about playing both center and linebacker for part of his 14-year career, Bednarik is equally as proud to have played on the last Eagles team to win a championship (1960).
That's why Bednarik will be rooting against the Eagles in the Super Bowl against New England. He has no desire to ever see the franchise win another title.
"I can't wait until the Super Bowl is over," said Bednarik, who played for the Eagles from 1949 to 1962. "I hope the 1960 team remains the last one to win. I hope it stays that way."
HEAR HEAR!! Go Patriots!

Ah, but let's not forget... if the Patriots win, then Belichick will have a better playoff record than VINCE LOMBARDI! Ben P.S. I suppose as Talossans we should be cheering for "Ár Pats"?
