(TNN) -- "The Aviator" soared over other films at the Oscar nominations Tuesday, earning 11 nods, including best actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), best director (Martin Scorsese), best supporting actor (Alan Alda), best supporting actress (Cate Blanchett) and best picture."
Others include original score (Howard Shore)... in fact, I went and bought his fine symphonic score - as well as the pop music filled soundtrack - the day after seeing this fine film...on Amazon.com, natch!
Certainly this is my favorite film of 2004. Let's see how it fares in the actual voting now for each category. I suspect, given the solid competition this year, that it will not "sweep," however.
If you haven't seen it, by all means GO!

Indeed! Now you have Academy voters ans well as myself saying so...not to hype or anything. Anyway, it is especially good because the acting is first rate, it is a great nostalgia biopic (taking place in the 1920s - 1950s), has lots of great moments and DiCaprio is superb as the young Howard Hughes!! Blanchett is a great Katherine Hepburn, it is loaded with airplanes...my goodness, what a film!
