PRIME DICTATE (Eight days late is better than never)
Even from the news reports, it's hard to grasp the magnitude of this disaster. Massive swaths of destruction, like that of a flash flood mixed with an F-5 tornado, over hundreds miles. That's everything from Green Bay to Chicago, and then some.
As Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Talossa, I would like to express our sorrow at this event, and ask the citizenry to spend a moment in contemplation, as appropriate for their individual religious beliefs.
As a Kingdom, we have no cash flow, and therefore cannot contribute to the reflief efforts, but as individuals, we might. I would encourage those with the means to contribute to the relief efforts in some meaningful way.
Gary L. Cone, Seneschal del Regipats Talossan 6 Jan 2004

Well said Honourable Cone! I know that I intend to make a donation to help the victims, most likely to the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund which is an official Anglican Church of Canada relief charity.

Hear, hear.
Amy and I are looking into how we can contribute. My step-son works at Best Buy and they are taking up a collection, which the corporation will match up to $1,000,000.

Nothing like an international disaster to make us realize we are all one people on this planet. Everywhere I go I see people raising money and donating clothes, food, money, whatever they can. It makes me proud to be an American. Fritz

People around the whole world, including Canadians, have been extremely generous. It is interesting to note, as the CBC did, that regular citizens around the world responded much earlier than governments and that they recognized the urgency of the situation before their respective governments.

Yes, you are quite correct Marcus. The good people of the world will often step forward and do the right thing without first thinking through the gain and loss for their individual goals. In truth politics most often divide and we Talossans must remember that lesson and use our political process to unite us in a common cause.

Exactly- unite and vote for the MN! All joking aside, I am very impressed with the many initiatives that have been organized by people around the globe. It is also important to remember that although the need is great now, this need will continue for months and even years into the future.

On the same day Bush donated $10,000 and F1 race driver Michael Schumacher donated $10,000,000. Bush is a real tightwad!
