Amy and I yesterday went down to Chicago for an exhibition at the Chicago Art Institute, entitled "Hero, Hawk and Open Hand," a collection assembled from various museums around North America of artifacts relating to the ancient Moundbuilder civilizations of prehistoric Talossa (and the surrounding areas). One of the items on display was indeed "the Black Hand" -- the very same hand used in the MN party's logo and advertising. When Wes Erni and I were first dreaming up the MN back during the dark days of Dan Wardlow's government in 1988, we wanted to use an ancient image of a hand, and this one -- made by the Adena moundbuilders, out of mica -- looked nice for the logo, so we used it. When the MN made its formal debut in 2002, we used the logo we had designed four years earlier. Anyhow, the actual artifact isn't black at all (it's made of mica, so it's sort of goldish/silverish and shiny) but it's still a part of Talossan heritage. The show will be at the Chicago Art Institute till the end of January. Ben
