To whom it may concern,
I have read everything there was to be read on this unnecessarily complicated CÚG Affair and came to the conclusion that the issue has been (at least partially) wrongly looked at by citizens from both sides.
We do recognize the importance and merits of the Icastolâ and the fine job it is doing for the good of our beloved Glhetg, and our doors remain open to all knowledgeable and competent Icastolâ members – and outsiders as well – who might be interested in collaborating with us. It is our intention to keep you informed of what we are doing and welcome your suggestions and constructive criticism. Therefore, as we believe the final result of the discussions taking place in the CÚG will clearly benefit all users of the Talossan language, we again invite and strongly encourage all interested parties to comment substantively on the proposals currently under discussion, so that we have the information necessary to create an Arestadâ that will serve the needs of the entire community of Ladintschen.
I feel, however, that many people think the CÚG is doing what it is doing because it follows orders from or is under the supervision of H. M. King John or His Excellency the Most Honorable Seneschál Lord Hooligan.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the CÚG is fully INDEPENDENT.
We, as a private group, do not care -- and never will -- what the government says or does, and fear not any kind of harassment or limitation of movements from it, at least as long as we are not doing something against the law.
The CÚG consists solely of linguists (and language geeks) – not POLITICIANS – and works exclusively on the language, with a view to purging it of the undesirable shortcomings that hinder its teaching and propagation, as well as to making it accessible to the greatest possible number of persons, inside and outside Talossa.
As we do not have any ties whatsoever with the government of the Kingdom or with the Republic of Talossa, we do not feel the obligation or necessity to seek approval from any authority. Our work is only and entirely devoted to serving the community’s interests. But we in the CÚG look forward to the adoption of the charter of the Association of Talossan Language Societies, which preserves our independence of action and provides all groups with a forum for a formal or informal consultation interchange.
Hard as these words may seem, they come straight from the heart and mirror the reality of our thoughts. They are not intended to hurt anyone’s feelings, but as you very well know, no one can please Greeks and Trojans alike.
Finally, I look forward, as the President of the CÚG, to working in the near future with the President of the Icastolâ on joint projects for the benefit of our beloved Glhetg and ALL who choose to learn it.
