As Regent of the University of Talossa, I humbly request that the College of Arms design a suitable blazon for the academic institution.
I also wish to point out that under the general thread topic: Draft University of Talossa College & Departments and the College of Arts and Sciences, that the Department of Heraldry is only intended to be an area for the instruction of future heralds, and in no way to impringe upon the authority of this quite different college. It is my hope that members of this group can assist the university toward the transfer of knowledge towards students both here and within the university system

One possible tack would be to use IN VINO VERITAS as a motto, and work some grapes, vines, barrels and wine glasses in the design - the currency of the realm may be beer, but the University would elevate itself and rise its nose slightly in a huffy manner towards the general public.

Another possiblity is that a squirrel or squirrels combatant may be an element, to support the idea of the mascot: The Fighting Squirrels for the amateur athletics teams of the University. Of course there could be arms for the university that are separate from "logos" for this purpose, but perhaps this group could assist in either case.

As the new Regent, I wish to renew this request. However, I understand there was, at some point, a University Seal submitted to the College of Arms. It does not appear in that thread anymore. I would like to see and evaluate it before re-beginning the process of seeking arms for the University.

Oh come on. Don't you at least want to wait til next month so it can be a full six years inactivity on this one by the College?

I think "One year and 59 months" is a much more Talossan period of inactivity than a full six years.

Anyway, I can't find the old proposed University Seal anywhere. Does anyone have a copy? Can anyone describe it?

If I remember, Sir XPB created it and it was a septagon which held a hexagon which held a heptagon which held a square which held a triangle, every one of them or (gold). It wasn't at all heraldic or blazonable, but it was cool-looking.

You can see the logo on the first page of this document. Ahah! Finally! It wasn't at all heraldic or blazonable, but it was cool-looking. Looking at it, I have to agree. Okay, can't put it on the University arms, then. My first instinct is to go with: Per pale vert and gules, three open books argent charged with the word SCIENTIA sable That takes the field reserved to the Talossan nation, evokes the arms of a famous and renowned university, and names the purpose of the University. On the other hand, I'm not sure that's sufficiently "cool".

What if we added a nonagon, a decagon, and undecagon, and a dodecagon? If this is blazonable, surely a series of shapes would be child’s play.

Hmm. Actually, SCIENTIA seems to lend itself to four books more than three, and I think I prefer per fess. Per fess vert and gules, four open books argent charged with the word SCIENTIA sable Attachments:

Thank you. NB: The gilt edges of the book pages is intentionally just "artistic interpretation" or elaboration, not part of the official blazon. It's still identifiably the same arms whether the page edges are argent or they are or. The artist in this case was copy-and-pasting the gilt-edge book from the Yale arms, having not been happy with his attempt to copy-and-paste the brown-edged books from the Harvard arms. He liked the gilt effect and so did not recolor the edges argent. The Regent agreed that the effect looked good, but was unwilling to make the blazon unnecessarily more complicated. The artist considered punching the Regent in the nose for his intransigence, but realized that was futile, since that would also mean the Regent hitting the artist in his nose simultaneously.
