From the Board of Governors of BHAID
The Board of Governors welcomes the donation of the residual funds of the Talossa AID charity to our efforts in furthering the mission of the Humans Helping Other Humans Act.
We thank S.reu Molinar for placing his confidence in us. We also await with interest the details promised by Sir Alexandreu Davinescu in the next issue of Berich't Talossan which will hopefully cast light on how this opportunity was nearly missed. Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them!
As the deadline for the December Clark is now past we cannot add the unexpected Talossa AID funds to the UNICEF appeal. We therefore propose that in honour of the suggestion made by Sir Alexandreu that we would activate the "International Development" portion of our mission and donate the funds to GiveDirectly, once we are able to gain the approval of the Ziu. The Governors are examining the most expeditious method of doing this at the earliest opportunity.
For those interested there is an extensive analysis of GiveDirectly's model at the GiveWell charity monitoring website. Givewells rate GiveDirectly as one of its top 5 charities, and have high praise for its corporate governance and commitment to scientifically assesising the impact of its programs.
While GiveDirectly's approach is not without controversy, and the organisation would themslves acknowledge it is at an experimental stage, it seems like a well-run programme with a commitment to empirically driven innovation. GiveDirectly's model of direct cash payments to the poorest families would we believe ensure that the proportionately small amounts we can raise nationally will be put to the most use.
A final note. The Governors would like to apply to the College of Arms for arms for BHAID. However since none of the Governors were appointed based on their artistic ability we would be most interested in any suggestions as to what our official arms should look like. Please post your suggestions, either in text for the artistically challenged or in graphic form, in reply to this thread.
