Life terms are ridiculous in practice. No Justice has ever died in office. Then let them retire at their own pace. Judges should not have to be continuously elected, for the reasons I brought up earlier

Well, I agree with that, which is why I want to bar consecutive terms. But the problem with a barely-active Justice taking up indefinite space on the Bench which could be filled by a competent person is a real one.

So we build in a more effective mechanism for forcing inactive Justices off the bench.

Okay, fine, write that and I'll happily withdraw the fixed-term thing. I just haven't seen that yet and time is a factor.

So we build in a more effective mechanism for forcing inactive Justices off the bench. Or just use the mechanism we have when necessary. Inactive justices have been effectively removed in recent years. I'm not aware that a removal attempt has ever been unsuccessful (at least as long as I've been a citizen).

Re; Cunstavals
Since Cunstavals are, by nature, the Royal representative to a province, I think it is a bit silly to mandate who the King can pick. Instead, let the King pick who he wants, but give the provincial governments the power to remove Cunstavals and mandate a new one be chosen. The powers of Cunstavals should be reduced

Re; Cunstavals Since Cunstavals are, by nature, the Royal representative to a province, I think it is a bit silly to mandate who the King can pick. Not true. In sensible constitutional monarchies the Monarch would never dream of imposing a personal representative who was noxious to the elected government of that state or province. The thrust of my reforms is to reduce Talossa's monarchy to the same level of power as the Queen of England.

What if provinces provided the monarch with a list of three people who could be chosen as Cunstaval?

If the King were constrained to pick from that shortlist, then that would be an acceptable compromise.
BTW: I'm surprised to hear Ián P saying that the Talossan monarchy becoming a constitutional monarchy like any contemporary European monarchy would be taking away too much power. How much power should the unelected King of Talossa have? Clearly the answer is "less than now". I would advise the moderate monarchists on this Commission to think about it carefully, since - between the reformist and conservative viewpoints - it might be their viewpoint which becomes the consensus decision.

Contemporary European Monarchs have basically no power at all (unless I am vastly mistaken). This is probably your point, but I am a moderate monarchist and believe the King should have some powers.
John was elected. And my suggestion for succession is to let the Ziu choose whether to continue the line or to elect someone else, which would make all future Kings elected as well.
I guess so, although with that attitude it might be hard to get any proposals past the Conservatives on this Commission. My idea to convert the King's veto over bills into a suspensive veto (in the same manner as the 3/4 Majority Amendment) has not received as much discussion as I would have thought.
So...me? We never appointed anyone to replace Nick Hayes; should we get someone from the TNC to be on the Commission?

We can't change the membership of the Commission at this stage, it would require a law or a PD.

So, fellow members, we need to hear from the others (Sir Cresti, Dame Litz, Prince Patrick, S:reu Ventrutx)
If we don't hear from the above members in 48 hours, we will proceed with the next step. However, I'm not entirely sure about the next step as we have two major proposals. Any ideas?

I say we try to reconcile the FreeDem proposal with mine (if we don't hear from anyone else). I unfortunately will not have time to flesh out my report, but I did present a list of disagreements with the FreeDem proposal that we should address, and I can bring up my minor changes as we visit each article.

Ok that might work. I will put the two proposals "side-by-side" so it is easier to compare versions.
