Prior to petitioning Christian, I messaged him asking for his word that he'll not do anything silly and childish like last time. I'm sad to see he's broken his word there and has attempted to steal our national identity... I've messaged him asking about all this, so I hope to hear from him soon.

It's funny though that they made their own conlang for their duchy, but still call it Talossan. I think "made" might be a strong word. It looks pretty much like Talossan with bits in. Also: I'm pretty sure these statements contradict one another.

Yet another fine clause in their constitution: "The Grand Duchy is a republic." Made me laugh out loudly.

My prediction: the Grand Duchy of Plagiarismsville will last two months before these guys get bored. Three months later, one or both of them will try to rejoin Talossa, perhaps under an assumed name.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, though so short a time will it be mine, shan't accept any communications from Bizarro-Talossa (or Tahlossa, whatever).

Yes, but I mean the blacklist, meaning that Chris will have to quit his crap our be booted out, never to return. This must be one of the most monumentally stupid stunts I have ever seen anyone try to pull in Talossa. And there is competition for that honour.
Actually, I think Chris is finished here now, regardless of what he does.

I do have to say, however, that they know how to pick territory! Pamlico sound and Ocrakoke Island are quite lovely. Near me as well. Three day weekend coming up... vacation?
I have to agree with Ian. As a strong contender for dumbest thing ever done in Talossa, if not the current title holder, this just strikes me as weird. Which is saying something. There is a feel of bizarro-Talossa here, yes.
But, at the same time, it seems par for the course for a 13 year old who found Talossa attractive in the first place. A need for pompousity and a strong desire to be the king (or grand duke, I guess) of your own castle is what helped create this nation in the first place. It is what largely drove the wellspring of micronations the proliferated (and died) in the 90's and early 00's. So I guess I can understand, to a certain degree, the why.
What I cannot understand is the badly xeroxed nature of their product. The simple copying of Talossa (with minor changes) seems to run contrary to the self-expression driving the creation of the new nation in the first place.
This reminds me of a thought I had when I was serving in the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic. Would Talossa be served by the creation of a sort of "youth commonwealth?" A semi-autonomous territory that might function like a school in Talossan civics and culture. It was never more than half-formed in terms of my thinking on it, but this new "Grand" Duchy dredges it up from the back of my head.
Ah well. We all know that the first rule of the GD-Talossa is that you do not talk about the GD-Talossa. The second rule of the GD-Talossa is that you do not talk about...

Is there a copyright on the name "talossa" if not why the hell not? Because if there was it would belong to ex-King Robert I! Actually, he did trademark the name, though he never enforced the trademark. It's what's stopped us trying to sell branded merchandise.

Actually, he did trademark the name, though he never enforced the trademark. It's what's stopped us trying to sell branded merchandise. It is (and it probably should be) impossible to copyright ideas. Figure a world where, for instance, mathematical algorithms would be patented, thus nobody could use them without paying tribute in cash. So actually a copyright does not bar copying or using an idea in an absolute manner; only spoiling someone else's business by copying and selling copies of their products or using their brand is outlawed. But that doesn't mean that plagiarism is a welcome attitude. Au contraire, stealing an idea under the pretense that it is the result of the application of an original inventive genious is a way of earning oneself the utmost contempt; at school and later university this usually leads to an immediate expulsion from the institution involved.

Im sure that the talossan journal sould not be allowed to post propaganda for a separate micronation? surely there's a law to stop that?
