Hello! My name is Alexandreu Davinescu. Most of you probably already know me, but you may not know my history with the University. I ran the Hemingway seminar, the first successful class in the University, as well as two successful full seminars on Wiki-editing. I also happen to be a high school English teacher by trade. This makes me an experienced and reliable teacher.
Recently I have thought about offering another course, but I'm unsure which sort of class students might prefer. Please go ahead and read about the course, and then let me know which classes you might be interested in, by voting for one or two in the attached poll. Please be aware that you should only vote if you'd be interested in actually enrolling in the class - if you just want to spectate, you can comment here with your preference, but I'm really interested in getting potential head-counts for a course.
Hemingway - A second session of my Hemingway seminar, considerably augmented and expanded thanks to five more years of scholarship under my belt. I wrote my M.A. thesis on Hemingway, so I have some expertise.
Wiki-editing - I've done this class twice before, teaching some of the rudiments of how to edit a wiki like TalossaWiki or Wikipedia. Currently it's a three-lesson class, but if I offered this again, I would expand it to five lessons.
Close Reading - This prospective class would examine how to pull more out of a story or sentence, learning to use different theoretical approaches to find additional meaning.
Rhetoric and Composition - This class would explore how to write a good sentence, and then expand that skill to look at persuasive writing, expository writing, creative writing, and other forms of composition.
Please let me know if you would be interested in one of these courses, by voting. You may choose up to two, but be aware I'm only going to teach one. If you want to see what the class would be like, check out my previous classes here, or take a look at some of my writing at my blog.
Thank you.
