Back in high school marching band (and again later in Navy boot camp) there was a saying:
If everyone else is wrong and only you're right, then you are wrong
I find myself in that position right now.
I worked hard to develop this province before many of you were citizens. We held constitutional conventions and had to jump through countless hoops to get a constitution when our Cunstuval fell inactive. We arose with the right to self-govern. We arose with a strong sense of provincial pride. We started out as citizens of Mussolini. But we became "Benitians."
This name seemed the perfect compromise. It paid homage to our founder ("Little Ben") and allowed us to maintain our strong Italian ties. T that end, we renamed the Cunstuval as our "Vicere." we passed laws establishing a provincial court, the Order of Benito.
I decided to run for Maestro this term to carry on the good work that I had to put on hold when i took the Senate seat vacated by Flip. During my tenure in the Senate, we had a very eager Maestro who was bent on changing everything. Nothing was done. Not a single law passed. No cultural initiatives undertaken. I ran with the promise that we would build Benito up to be even better.
This renaming issue has dominated all. It is popular, because it is easy. It is easy to rename a province. It is not easy to make that province vibrant and rich.
As the majority has chosen to take this easy way out, and since I have been publicly accused of voicing this opinion for political gain, I hereby resign as Maestro. I will retain my seat in the Chancellery for the time being. I fully intend to leave the province as well, but I will make that final decision after the renaming referendum.
No one has accepted provincial office that I have offered them because no one wants to put work into this province, it seems. I am disappointed, Benito. AI am very disappointed that you have chosen to rename the province rather than do something productive and worthwhile.
My resignation is effective immediately and I hope you all have fun with your present venture.
