Azul, fine peoples of Benito.
Well, the excitement of the election is over, and I find myself somewhat hung-over following last nights victory celebration. Before I pull out the broom to sweep up all the confetti, empty beer cans and cigarette ashes strewn about Taiwos Campaign Headquarters, I wanted to thank you all for your support.
I entered this thing with no expectation of winning. In truth, it was done on a lark - the chance to create some silly campaign flyers and have some fun. My entire campaign was conducted in a rather tongue-in-cheek fashion (as anyone who bothered to read my campaign thread may have noticed.) I expected the voters to take notice of my clumsy, barely articulate answers to questions that were posed to me, compare them with my opponents answers to the same questions, and decide for themselves who truly was the better candidate.
And I still won. What were you all thinking?
No doubt I won this election simply based on the fact that I was the RUMP endorsed candidate. Probably there were a few voters who never bothered to read either my or Pertgonests campaign threads. I'm not pointing any fingers...as a former Cosa member, I admit I did this myself a few times. There were occasions when I found myself too preoccupied with personal issues (job, wife, etc.) to pay much attention to the bills I was voting on. So i'd simply see how every other RUMPer voted, and do the same. I suppose, even in a nation as small as our own, you can't expect everyone to be an informed voter. There will always be folks who will vote a "straight ticket", without bothering to know what candidates or issues are involved.
My campaign didn't seem to suffer even after I made some scandalous comments concerning the Republic. (Comments that were mainly fueled by too much Foundation Day currency.) (Hopefully I've made ammends with the parties I insulted. I only make mention of this faux pas of mine, as I found it deeply embarrassing, and was afraid it would tarnish my reputation in Talossa. Although, as a country whose currency is beer, shouldn't we be a bit more forgiving of citizens having the occasional drunken outburst?)
Nonetheless, it now dawns on me that I've gotten myself into a sticky wicket. I hope I will be able to live up to everyones expectations, but I also hope you all will be forgiving of me should I unintentionally err in the performance of my Senatorial duties. This is all new to me! I wish for nothing but the best for Talossa and Benito, and I will endeavour to be a Senator y'all can be proud of.
I look forward to hearing from all of you. I can be reached at jasontyus@gmail.com. We are entering a new era in Talossa, and even if my accomplishments during my tenure as Senator amount to f**k all, I will still be proud to have been a part of our Kingdom during this time.
Let's do it, people. Let's make this the greatest Province in all Talossa!
