Tired of having to trespass into Fiova to announce my musical predilections. Currently listening to the Stones, "Gimme Shelter". Its just a shout away.

Of course you're welcome here, Deet. (As is everybody else, actually, but guys who dig Captain Beefheart are especially welcome.) (I think he deserves his own day of tribute in Talossa. "Van Vliet Day".)

Oh yes, Van Vliet Day sounds like a great idea.

A short chat with our assisstant Scribe has caused me to toss aside the Oi! records I had lined up to listen to, and instead throw some classic jazz onto the turntable. "The Best of John Coltrane-His Greatest Years, Vol.2" on the Impulse label. (Okay, so I have most of Tranes stuff on CD. CD player ain't working. Vinyl rules.) (Whenever I hear Neil Youngs " The Needle and the Damage Done", I secretly wonder if it was less about heroin addiction and more about a record getting worn down by the stylus. Neil is obviously a huge record junkie, given the fact that he's never licensed a couple of his albums to be released on CD.)

You'd be proud of me, my midnight moonlight swim was accompanied by Miles Davis' Kind of Blue.
I must say, good Jazz makes excellent swimming music. (My previous midnight swim was accompanied by Charles Mingus' The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady.)
The effect was momentarily ruined at the end when my mp3 player decided Gerardo's Rico Suave was an appropriate followup to Mr. Davis. I quickly corrected it and was serenaded by Tom Waits the rest of the swim.

You are making good progress, my friend. Just remember, Rico Suave is 'drowning music'.

Mmh... got some vinyl stuff by Impulse, "A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane, something by Charlie Mingus ("Mingus, Mingus, Mingus!"), something else... :-)

I love Mingus. There's a great video floating around (youtube, maybe) where it looks like Mingus leaves the stage for a bathroom break during an Eric Dolphy solo. Impulse was a great label, second only to Blue Note for the amount of great stuff they put out. (Still wanting to unload some of those jazz albums, Deet? If the King ain't interested, I am.)

The Impulse stuff is in my collection here in Frankfurt - it has been there since the late 70s and it is not for sale. Surprise, for some time I liked to listen to jazz heroes like Dolphy, Mingus, Coltrane and others. :-)
The records of my father, on the other hand, well, I stopped compiling a list after ten items and couldn't talk myself into hanging on, yet. It's all in the house in East Frisia, still.

Dedicated to Miestrâ Schivâ:
I must add, I really like post-campaign Miestrâ and feel silly at how cranky campaign Miestrâ made me.
Still, when I heard this song today I kept hearing, Miestrâ instead of Yoshimi and RUMPbots instead of Robots andI have no idea why.
Also, I wasn't actually listening to the Flaming Lips but rather a female singer with a piano and a live audience and I have no idea who it was.
