We have not talked about how nouns are pluralized in Talossan yet, but the plural form of some of the words in this set offer some interesting previews. For example, suorschen (= mice), lupuis (= wolves), cätsilor (= cats), and one of the very few irregular plural nouns cician (= dogs).

Although we have not discussed irregularly pronounced words yet, it is interesting to note that although there are only a few dozen words in Talossan that are not pronounced according to regular rules, three of these words are among the first seven number-words. The numbers qátor (= four), simca (= five), and séifet (= seven) are all three irregularly pronounced.

Another thing to notice about the number words is that only one of them has a "feminine gender" version, and that one is the number "one". We have not yet discussed grammatical gender, but it is worth noting that the word viensa is the feminine form of the number "one". Later in the course we will see when to use viensa instead of viens.

Some of the numbers have older words that can sometimes be seen used in place of those listed above. One of these, deþu (= ten) is experiencing a renaissance of sorts, and can be seen instead of bisquinc. The number "twenty" also has two forms, as shown above. In practice, vaintsch is seen more commonly.

You may remember from looking up the Talossan word for "water" that it is apa. Notice that apa is also the Talossan word for "grandfather". Just as there are some pairs of words in English like this, this is one such pair in Talossan.

An interesting thing to notice here is the similarity of the word for nacho chips (Listopätsilor) to the word for October (Listopäts). This is actually explained by two facts. First, as we will discuss later in the class, the plural form of all words that end in -äts is created by adding -ilor to the end of the word. So this means that Listopätsilor is the plural form of Listopäts. Does this mean that "nacho chips" is somehow the plural form of "October"? No; the other thing going on here is that Listopäts is also the Talossan word for "fallen or dead leaf". The month of October obviously takes its name from the dead leaves, and "nacho chips" takes the same word after the leaf-like shape and brown, fallen-leaf color of the snack-food.
