I firmly believe that the only person who might have been able to prevent Talossa from splitting was Ben, and instead trying to patch things back together, he deliberately chose to keep hammering away at the big wedge. To believe that any Talossan PM and his or her government could have reigned in Ben and Gruber, is naive.
I admire how QC handled things during this time of unprecedented crisis. QC understood that he could not control the massive storm that had moved over Talossa. What he did instead was to remain calm. He conducted the affairs of state fairly and well. He remained steadfastly aloof from the Ben-Gruber feud (a feud, he rightly determined that no one could successfully intervene in). And he hoped (without being naively optimistic) that maybe the storm might blow over or lose some of its intensity.
While many Talossans seem to like hair-trigger responses, florid speeches and grand meaningless gestures, QC governed in a quiet, matter-of-fact manner. Some may think that the times called for more dramatic actions and statements, but I think QC's approach probably spared us here in the Kingdom as well as those in the Republic from much useless acrimony.
In a time where there was little room to do good, he at least did no harm. In the midst of the storm than engulfed his term of office, it will be easy to underestimate the value of what he choose not to do and not to say. I say: Job well done!

Dan, Gosh. Thank you very much. I wish my time hadn't been spent in Damage Control, but I did the best I could, and hopefully the rudder and sails weren't damaged in the storm.
