What's the justification for having the King or Regent be commander-in-chief of the navy? Why not the prime minister?
Does making the PM commander-in-chief add a layer of bureaucracy that having the King or Regent in command avoids?
If need be, I would not be opposed to requiring that portraits of the King or Regent be displayed prominently in the cabins or offices of high ranking naval officers.

Dear Q and others: I've tried to incorporate recent suggestions into a chart of Comparative Command Echelons in the Talossan Navy. You can see a draft of my proposal for modernizing the Navy here. Good luck! Trotxa PS: Sorry I couldn't make the HTML work to post it here. PPS: Yes, I know I suggested other colors for the Marine and Air Force insignia. I'm still open to seeing them either way.

I don't think that's what he was referring to. His link works fine.
Trotxâ, can you .pdf or .jpg that chart? I think it would show here if it were linked that way.

Yes, S:reu Q, or should I say "Aye Aye"!
I'll run a .gif or .jpg (which might be huge). I'm not sure if a pdf can be an image, but I'll give her the old Navy try!

I have a question is thier an age limit. Like the U.S. say that you need to be 18 to join a branch of the Military Evan brings up a good question. Given the demographics of our population, it seems wise to consider the rank of Boy Seaman. As I see it, if you are old enough to vote in Talossa, you're old enough to join the Navy. A good example of the expectations of a Boy Seaman is the example set by John Travers "Jack" Cornwell, the youngest recipient of the Victoria Cross in the Royal Navy. Jack was 16 years old when his ship, the HMS Chester, encountered the German fleet at the Battle of Jutland. Though mortally wounded, Jack stayed at his post. The Jack Cornwell School Song At Jutland when the battled raged and naval guns bayed loud, Jack Cornwell on the Chester stood, Firm till the end. How proud, how mighty proud are we to bear his name, God grant that in life's battles our courage be the same.

I say we should have the age requirement be 14 (the same age that you're eligible to vote). Maybe under 14 there would be some kinda junior navy thing to prep kids for life in the Talossan Navy. Or we could just incorporate it within the cub scout. I think males should be our target recruits, but there's nothing wrong with female recruits.. It's just. Once our navy is established, unpleasant things could occur if a vessel is deployed out to sea for long periods of time when there's females aboard.

If you missed it Troxta said it should be the same age as vote. Also grow up females don't do anything you just need a picture.

That's a good point. Why not just start out at plain ol' Seaman? Maybe have a minimum age for officers, but anyone can enlist anytime.

My Lord -
Would you suggest limiting the youth of the Kingdom to the rank of Seaman, or could they promote up through the ranks?

I say we alow them to move up in the ranks because then you can get experts at what is going on in a navel battle and not rely on people who haven't been navy before and they get to be a capitan.

If they merit a promotion, then they deserve one. I don't think it would be fair to make them be powder monkeys the whole time. There will be plenty of enlisted rates to move up through, and by that time they will have enough knowledge and experience to move into the officer ranks. I do think that anyone who jumps straight to an officer rank should be of a minimum age though.
