Post by Tomás Chirischtoval àl Bosc on Mar 9, 2006 15:06:15 GMT -6
IF I am granted citizenship to The Kingdom of Talossa, I do not want to wait to make a Talossan name. I want to have one ready. However, even if I am not granted citizenship, I will still enjoy having a Talossan name and using it when people spam me with junk mail. Anywho, if you will allow this process to continue, I have constructed a starting point for a possible name: Xhemuna Chirischtôval àlasbosc Xhemuna = Twin = Thomas Chirischtôval = Christopher þavit ar = to live somewhere à = at (i think) las = the bosc = forest Atwood literally means "lives at the woods", I see þavitaràlasbosc as too long of a name, so I shortened it to just be "at the woods(forest)" Also, I do not know the grammar or sentence stucture of Talossan. Due to that, I may have just butchered your language.

Actually, that was very well done with your surname, and exactly the kind of process that is used!
I believe that (to, as you say, provide some unbutchering) you would actually end up with Àlbosc ("at the forest") or Delbosc (for "of the forest"), but I am not 100% sure either.
As for your given name, Talossan does provide a direct equivalent to Thomas -- it is Tomás (I think I have the diacritical mark right there, but perhaps not).
Far from the expert, Hooligan

Just to follow up, pavitar is one word; it is the infinitive of the verb "to quake or tremble" (not to live somewhere). So I think we have a disconnect here. You'd actually want something like "to reside" which is "demurar."
You would want to conjugate the verb to its second person neutral, making it demura ("he who resides") then add the woods part. For example, "Thomas lives in the forest" would be "Tômas demura în el bosc."
Bosc is a masculine singular noun, hence "el" instead of "la" or "las."

While "pavitar" certainly means "to quake or tremble," "þavitar" (cognate with "inhabit") means "to live (in)."

Ah, I did not see the direct translation to Thomas. I should have done a little more research on grammar, but Tomás Chirischtôval àl Bosc is somewhat close to what I had to start with which is what I was hoping for. Now I need to gain citizenship so that I may use this name in context.

Personally (but this is just me), I would cram the àl and the Bosc together, in the same way "At" and "Wood" are crammed together in your English name, and make it one word -- Àlbosc.

make it one word -- Àlbosc. Not only do you get to keep your monograms, but you'll share your initials with the Ultra-high TCF Talossan College of Arms! Trotxâ

Tomás Chirischtôval àl Bosc (Àlbosc) will work either way, my next question is, after reading another thread on Talossan Names, what must I do to officially change it? It seems it just ended up happening to the other fella.

Except that we need to alphabetize "àl Bosc" among the As instead of after the Zs. — John Woolley, UrN, ever helpful
