My name is Alexander Davis.
If it so please the Squirrel Queen of Arms, I request the assistance of the College in designing and obtaining arms for myself and my lawful heirs.
My favorite color is green.
I suggest vert, a sable chess rook on a saltire argent, if it would be acceptable. I feel the stark segmenting of the field by the saltire indicates my stern view of the world's requirement for a stark morality, the field itself is my favorite color as well as an homage to my homeland, and the presence of the rook indicates my penchant for an unusual approach to life, rather than one space at a time. I also like the simplicity of it.
I realize Ascension Day is the earliest my arms might be awarded, and thank you in advance.

S:reu Davis -- The obtaining of arms is an involved process. The Dean of the College of Arms will, I am sure, be in touch with you regarding your request, and will assign a Fellow, Pursuivant, or Herald of the College to work with you. Your proposed blazon will need to be researched to establish its uniqueness among the armigers of the world, but otherwise, your intrepid beginning has placed you quite a bit ahead of the game. I have taken the liberty of emblazoning an escutcheon per the blazon you proposed, viz.: Vert upon a saltire argent a chess rook sable. Respectfully submitted, Lord Hooligan OAF of the College of Arms

S:reu, thank you for your time and efforts on my behalf. Might I inquire as to the identity of your heraldry program, perhaps even to the point of venturing that it appears to be Blazon95, the self-same program I used?
Additionally, in consideration of the coolness factor, I believe a knight rather than rook would be even better, but this raises the question of whether or not such a blazon would be presumptious; would it seem as though I was claiming knighthood?

I do not believe that choosing a chess knight would be presumptious, although perhaps deferring this question to a Knight of the Realm (hello, Blanc Wolf Herald?) would be appropriate. I will be happy (at my earliest convenience, which, owing to out-of-town guests, will not be until next week) to re-emblazon a draft of your arms using a chess knight, and using my emblazoning program, which is...uh...Paint Shop Pro. :-)

I see nothing at all presumptuous in using a chessknight as a charge. It's not a reserved charge. It's kind of rare, not as classically heraldic as a chessrook, but perfectly legal and proper.
Arms this simple, I'd want to check carefully for conflicts.

The Dean of the College will kindly note that Blanc Wolf Herald used the first person singular when indicating his wish to have the proposed arms checked for conflicts.
Hooligan (definitely a second person)

I am interested in any progress, or perhaps aid which I might be able to render. Dear S:reu Davis - Lord Hooligan has been updating the College and yourself about the status of your design Vert a chess knight sable upon a saltire argent. His messages have been sent to your gmail account. Please let the College know here on this board if you have not received his messages and the latest design. Your obt., -- Jaune Sabre, Dean

I have, and the example given fits my needs for dignity and respectability far more than adequately. Thank you very much.
