Fifteen years ago today, a group of us Talossans said 'enough was enough'. Daring something worthy, we founded the Republic of Talossa, going against Ben Madison's vendetta against Kane Gruber, which consisted of Ben trying to smear Kane with false allegations of domestic violence.
The community that sprang from that righteous indignation made it possible for Talossa to have back in its fold some amazing people Ben ran off years earlier as well as other amazing people who had never been in Talossa before, Republic or otherwise. It is a miracle that community crossed over the Vuode Wall in 2012 almost (or completely) intact, and it continues to do my heart good to see a number of them still in active participation.
Long live Talossa, and may the Republic serve as a reminder to all of us what can happen when things are allowed to run amok.

I have to admit, I'm glad we moved passed the Republic. In hindsight, it was pretty awful. We had to do so much work to keep things going. If we hadn't come back to the Kingdom, I think the Republic would have collapsed.

The Republic was dying on the vine because, frankly, almost everyone who discovered Talossa joined the Kingdom because it was the "original" and because it had pomp, silliness and things to do. All we had was democracy.
Now, Allà willing, the reunited Talossa will have both.

The one thing I do miss is the rivalry. It was like us versus them. It kind of motivated me. Now that we've buried the hatchet, I'm less inspired.
Well, such is life.

In hindsight, I would also say once Ben left Talossa, the real reason for the Republic's existence left with him, and the universe was stacked against us from then on. That and the Kingdom's internet legacy hampered us. I would also say the Kingdom was a happier place post-August 2005, while we still wallowed in our sadness laced with bravery. The Kingdom was having more fun than we were, and I think people could see that.
