Fellow Senators, Mençei dal Senäts Gödafrïeu Válcadác’h has appointed him, me and Sir C. M. Siervicül as the three members of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. As per H.21.1, though, we still need the Senate to pass a motion to estabilish the committee for the current term, before we can begin our work.
Accordingly, I move that the Senate estabilish a Senate Committee on Rules and Administration for the current term, expiring at the beginning of the Senate for the 53rd Cosa, and cast my vote in favour.

I actually abstained on the Standing Rules (Senate) Act, though I was leaning heavily toward Contrâ. I was disappointed to see it pass, and regretted voting as I did.
Sorry, Lüc. I know it was your bill.
I'm not in favour of more regulation. I experience more than enough of it in daily life.
Yes, the Act is intended to close loopholes and reduce the potential for future arguments. I guess I'm afraid we'll legislate ourselves into complete silence, when things are already too quiet.
So... Contrâ

Point of personal preference: Doesn't the motion need a second before anyone can call for a vote?

I don't recall any such precedent, but well, this is why we need at least some standing rules, Sevastáin Pinátsch If this is to be treated as a point of order, perhaps Gödafrïeu Válcadác’h can rule on it so that we know if we can proceed as-is or if someone has to second the motion first? (or perhaps someone could second the motion anyway and the point of order is moot)

Just quoting that font of all parliamentarian wisdom (No - not Roberts Revised!), Wikipedia: Process of handling motionsThe process of handling motions involve the following steps: - A member obtains the floor and makes a motion.
- Another member seconds the motion.
- The chair states the motion.
- Members debate the motion.
- The chair puts the motion to a vote.
- The chair announces the results of the vote and what happens with the motion.
So, we jumped from Step 1 to Step 5. If this is to be treated as a point of order... Actually - it was intentionally a point of personal preference. T

I am not aware of the Senäts having previously established rules of order, so it seems arbitrary we should adapt a particular set now, and then consider them binding.
That said, just so we can get going, I suppose I will second the motion.

The vote passes 6-1; everyone is very welcome to visit the other thread I opened and comment on the first of ten rules I would like to propose. There's also a PDF of the full set of ten rules earlier on that thread.
