Greetings Heralds, Pursuivants, and Fellows of the College of Arms,
I approach you today to discuss the creation of a new coat of arms for myself and my husband (Raymundo Garcia).
We are wondering if we are able to share the same Coat of Arms. If so, we were hoping that one of you would be willing to help us make a new coat of arms that carries aspects of our homeland arms and my Talossan arms.
Any guidance regarding this would be much appreciated.

Azul estimat S:reu da Biondeu,
As far as I am aware, spouses may not share a coat of arms. They may have somewhat similar emblazons, but need to be distinct enough to be different grants.
I may be incorrect and perhaps the Squirrel King of Arms or his regent may be able to shed more light.
Regards,
The Kingsbridge Pursuivant.

However, if Raymundo obtains his own arms, there are two traditional options for married couples to display their arms together. One is for the arms to be "impaled" on a single escutcheon (shield): you draw a line down the center of the shield and put one spouse's arms on one side and the other spouses arms on the other side. The other is to display the two escutcheons side by side, or acollé. You can see an example of the latter practice in the "conjugal arms" of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Kate Middleton), seen here.

Thank you Sir Cresti. I had tried to find the example of the conjugal arms of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge but for some reason could not. I also had not considered having the arms impaled. I am interested to see where this request goes!

Is there an exampe of impaled ones? As a matter of fact, here is an example of the same arms (Duke & Duchess of Cambridge) impaled instead of accolé.

If you mean revising your current arms, I don't know that we've ever done that. If you mean impaling your arms, your husband would first need to have arms.

I'll try to start a discussion in the College about it. Is there a particular reason you want to revise your own grant? I think we would want to be very conservative about revising existing grants, because arms are supposed to be unique and permanent. We don't want to open the door to people asking to have their arms redone every few months to reflect a change in hobby or interests, for example.

I seek to incorporate a few additional aspects so that my coat of arms contains a few things from my family's coat of arms. It wouldn't be a complete "toss mine out and start over"... just develop it a bit further.

The College will take your request into consideration. We will let you know our decision.
