When I volunteered myself for the Maestro seat, I made but one promise, to be only marginally better than no Maestro at all. I have come close to fulfilling that goal. In order to gain that margin, I aim to make one proclamation. I have had it in my mind from my first day in office, but it had been my intention to do this on Sunday the 26th in order to coincide with Benito Day. A rash of illnesses in my household has unfortunately held my attention and I missed my goal, but enough of this and on with the proclamation.
The Order of Benito exists to honour citizens of our province who have distinguished themselves in service to our province. Over the last three years, one citizen has done just that. Lüc da Schir has been a major contributor to every recent provincial advancement and debate in Benito. He has served as Maestro, establishing provincial holidays and quite diplomatically overseeing a resurgence of the perennial name debate, as Arvitier Prima, and currently as Senator. In a province whose chief commodity seems to be resignations, Lüc is a role model of perseverance. While I and the rest of Benito have fallen silent of late, Lüc has almost single-handedly kept Benito relevant. In fact, as the first Seneschal from our province in over twenty years, he has perhaps increased our relevancy.
Speaking for a moment as a fellow citizen rather than the Maestro, I must also add that Lüc has long ago earned my admiration and respect. He has a bearing frequently more mature and respectful than his elder peers. He is open to criticism, humble towards praise, capable of compromise and willing to admit mistakes. He embodies everything that drew me to Talossa, that interesting balance of serious and silly, but nearly always amiable.
It is with immense joy and honour that I, Vitxalmour Pelbiançéu Conductour, as Maestro of the Sovereign Province of Benito, enroll the Most Honourable Cpl. Senator Lüc Iánescu-Braneusefiglhëu da Schir in the Order of Benito.
Long live Don Lüc, and happy belated Benito Day to all!
