Might I say, I like this forum much better than what I've seen of Witt X.
I understand Witt X has much more historical meaning to Talossa, but I think this one is better for our purposes.
Dreu, I'd like to point out that you seem very very concerned with the Republic's politics at the moment (such as this whole Witt X thing and the Secret Ballot Bill), just watch how involved you get.

Welcome back!
I would like to echo S:reu Caçeir's wordsand I hope this will help lay the foundation for the bridge of Talossan unity.
Welcome home.

Guru Valdmanaya, I, for one, am in favor of both the Kingdom and Republic dissolving into Chicken Shwarma. Anyone else in favor? Dreu P.S. I finished 2 of my 6 exams today so I'll be 2/6ths less crazy Dreu, you are crazy. Because 2/6ths is actually 1/3. Come on man...simplify! Simplify! I'd like to add that I am a royalist and I will fight for the monarchy with my every waking breath. ~Vürinalt~

The reponsibilty of confering medals could easily rest on the Prime Minister's or even King's shoulders as well.

No, I was not saying the language test would be a good idea. I actually think it would be a very bad idea, learning Talossan should be solely one's personal choice. I was trying to fill in the missing piece of S:reu Siervicül's example since I know for a fact the US requires English language proficiency to gain citizenship. So I do not support any Talossan language proficiency for this test. As I said, learning Talossan is a purely personal choice. I think that it would be a good idea to use such a test as listed above to create a new order of nobility for those that excel at knowledge of all things in the realm of Talossanity. So, it should be exceptionally difficult. Just an idea. Yeah, but then to many people would be nobles. The point of nobility is to honor those who make worthwhile contributions to Talossa, not simply recalling facts. I agree that those that know a lot about Talossa should be honored, but not by elevation to nobility. Perhaps the Secretary of State could establish a list of civil medals to honor outstanding citizens who do not fall under the category of knighthood or nobility. Perhaps a Talossan equivalent of the Congressional Gold Medal, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Gold_Medal, Congressional Silver Medal en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Silver_Medal, the Presidential Citizen’s Medal en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Citizens_Medal , and the Presidential Medal of Merit en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Medal_for_Merit

I've long thought that reinstating the civics exam would be a good idea. Note that the exam posted by Dréu was a proposed updation to the exam. I don't think anyone ever took that version. I envision putting the exam after the petition is made but before citizenship is granted. Or during or at the end of the probationary period which has been discussed elsewhere. The exam should be: * Multiple choice, to minimise the element of discretion in grading the exams. * Administered by e-mail, so that people can't just look up past exams. * Made up of simple, basic questions. * Open-book, with all of the answers available on kingdomoftalossa.net. I'd focus on OrgLaw-based civics questions, with some very fundamental questions about history. Things like: What form of government does the Kingdom of Talossa have? What are the colours of the Talossan flag? What is Talossa's motto? What is Talossa's national anthem? What are the official languages? What year was Talossa founded? What is are the names of the national legislature, lower house, and upper house? Which of the following are Talossan provinces? Which Royal Household official administers Clarks and elections? Maybe we could come up with a whole bunch of questions like that, and each prospective has to answer 30 or 40 selected at random. For sake of comparison, here are some sample citizenship questions for the US and UK. I agree with S:reu Siervicül on this. I think that the Talossan public should be educated in the history and law of their country, but, should we do this, we have to make sure the questions are of fair difficulty. When you look at the citizen tests for other countries, you'll notice that the questions really aren't that hard. Yet, in order to answer them, you must have the interest to go and find those answers. They really aren't that hard once you look for the answers. One thing that is on many other country's citizenship exams is a basic level of proficiency in the language of that country. You need to speak, or have proof you are learning English to get citizenship in the United States. Should this pass, would we test incoming citizens for a basic level of Talossan proficency? As for the test itself goes, I agree that 30-40 questions should randomly be picked and emailed to prospective immigrants. I think we should have a pool of maybe 60 questions to choose from. Now, since I love playing devils advocate ;D: What if this has the exact opposite effect of what we are aiming for. Now, instead of posting answers to your questions on Witt for 15 days you have to supplement that by taking a 40 question test. Would this turn some prospective citizens away? Does this turn Talossa into a hassle rather than fun? I support this as both a fellow member of the LRT and from my own beliefs, we just need to make sure we get the intended reactions from re-instating this rather than the opposite.

As the Senator for the Glorious Province of Maritiimi-Maxhestic, I wish to say that we honour and love our German heritage, and welcome all citizens of German descent or simply those with enthusiasm for the rich and ancient German culture. Those who speak the Deutsch will always be welcome in the Twin Ms. Danke sehr, mein Herr!

We'll have a little German speaking fest over here in Mussolini.
Das ist toll!
Can't wait until you're a citizen.

With a population that small, perhaps the new name should be "Muss". Ha, sure, I'll make sure I propose that in the CC after the election. Seems like "Lombardi" has been floated around alot. Of course, if that would be the new name, I'd be hard pressed to have Els Empachiers be in Florencia and not in their true homeland. *SIGH* Well...we'll just be the Rhode Island of Talossa...

That is probably how things work. And, I imagine that every time it does, those that have been around for awhile grump and gripe about the "New Kids not understanding" too. Not trying to be a smart ass, but I know I'm included among the "New Kids." But since the voting age in Talossa is 15, shouldn't the "New Kid's" views be embraced and debated on because we represent, albeit a small portion, of the Talossan voting body. If this is truely representative, the "New Kid's" views should be at least listened to. Compare it to a minor party in the US political system, while we might not have the best ideas, we have ideas that can be embraced (or mutilated, burned, destroyed, etc.) by the "Old People" to make small adjustments to legislation that makes the legislation even better. For example, say there wasn't a Green Party. Would the Republicans and Democrats spend as much time debating about CO2 emmisions and global warming? It's these small things the "New Kids" can bring to the table. I would like to say I'm not one of those crazy "New Kids." At the risk of being misinterpreted, I'll still say, I don't want to be one of the "New Kids" who will have to put an apology in his signature for being to radical to fast before assimilating into Talossa succesfully. All in all, I just ask everybody "New Kids" and "Old People" included to listen to the views of everybody peacefully even if you don't personally agree with somebody's views. Politicians of other countries can't name call and be overly frusterated because they're in the spot light. If the Witt is the spotlight of Talossa, it's shining on all of us. Us "New Kids" just need a while to adjust our eyes.

Provinces shrink only when they don't grow. Very true. Inactivity and apathy is also when they shrink. No worries! Us Mussolinians are trying to address this and hopefully we can get back in the game!
