The Senator's constant critical eye is valued and appreciated by the entire nation, I am sure.

I was being mildly facetious rather than actually arguing the matter *grin*

"In a nation our size, it is very important to know who is and is not in your political party; secret ballots would allow for a lot of subterfuge -- someone could play double-agent, vote against "his" party, and then receive Cosâ seats from the leadership."

The Bill should, perhaps, explicate where to investigate, and tidy up the terms:
"THEREFORE, the Ziu hereby resolves that a committee shall be formed of three people, assigned by the Seneschal, and that that committee shall investigate pertinent examples, in the material world and online, of secret balloting techniques; and shall report back upon their methodologies, and make a recommendation upon how to use this information, to the Ziu."
With that done, the LRT backs this Bill.

Thanks Mick. I'll comment later when I have more time!

Dreu, I haven't checked yet, but have the changes discussed here been implemented? The LRT backs the Bill, WITH proposed changes.

I more meant, if a Bill was introduced NOW proposing changes.
As for investigation: For the better enlightenment of myself, and many. Several people DO support the concept, and would feel that research is needed - and I think understanding methods might change some minds anyway, as far as those who oppose it on issues of trust etc.
I am certainly willing to look at the results and consider how general election balloting might be improved by secret balloting - if the results of the investigation demonstrate it would be safe, efficacious and improve freedom of conscience.

Mick, is that the only kind of voting we have in Talossa?
Does factfinding immediately lead to secret voting in the Cosa?
I think the Seneschal and Senator Holmes have overreacted somewhat. As you've said, factfinding is unproblematic and could lead to interesting results.
If a Bill were brought seeking to introduce secret balloting for either the national vote or the Cosa, I would oppose it - but I see no problem with investigating and evaluating.

Note to every nation with a meaningful democracy: secret balloting is for pussies, get over it!

I would vote for the revised Bill, though a team of one with an overseer might work just as well as a team of three.

Perhaps the Foreign Minister should request an explanation of the Republic system in lieu of a full investigation.

I suggest Dreu redraft the Bill to either be a clear investigative effort, or a proposal to switch balloting systems - and leave this draft at that.

It's not unknown for any of us to misphrase things - I personally know Dreu doesn't see a replicate electoral system as the cornerstone of reunion.
That would all need to be made very clear in a redraft of this concept.

Whilst I think reunion is an admirable aim, I do not believe this is part of any plan to merge institutions. I think, as has been admitted openly, Dreu hopes the Bill, and the concomittant diplomacy involve, will help foster relations.
And I think the Republic's system is considered apposite because it is a nation which conducts its elections in a similar way to ours in respects that secret balloting in the UK or the US do not match.

I think if my honourable friend presented a more focussed Bill legislating for a special investigative panel to examine secret balloting techniques in the Republic, with no further clauses or motivation, it might meet with more support.
