On this day, the incoming President (or the re-elected President in the beginning of a second term) should deliver the state-of-the-nationette speech. Long live the Republic!

Perhaps the Capitán should deliver a State of the Province speech instead.

After all, our law says that it's Revolution Day. That would be worth a little speech that is keeping the spark of republicanism smoldering, so to speak.

In Savannah, GA, it was considered good form to propose toasts on American Independence day. The more flowery, the better. And so, might I propose the Symposium of Calondâ Gün. By this, I mean "symposium" in its most ancient sense, that of a "drinking party." And so, the Capitan (or Cunstuval) should begin the proceedings followed by citizens proposing toasts and speaking elegies to the Republic that was and shall be. And (of course) they should include what they're toasting with... beverage recommendations are always a plus.

Savannah's a liberal part of the State, right? In the rest of the State do they propose toasts on January 29?

Savannah is relatively liberal, politically speaking. However it was also home to Chapter number 2 of the Daughters of the Confederacy and, despite liberal politics and social views, is still "Old South." They don't celebrate secession, but they do hold observances of Confederate Memorial Day.
Which, Alexander Stevens's cornerstone speech aside, seems to fit Fiova a little bit. Steep us in a semi "Lost Cause" mystique.

Well, pace Dieter, I've always thought of the Republic as the GDR without the Russian tanks (and therefore the ZRT as Die Linke).

Well, cough, Die Linke is a looong way past reunion phenomenon, made of the East German PDS (past-reunion sequel of the SED, ruling party of the DDR) and the West German WASG, an anti-Hartz-legislation coalition foundation of the early 2000s. Anyway, many - if not all - historical paralells seem to be limping on one leg ... including the one according to which Ben's realm after the split was some kind of a New North Korea. Or South Talossa being some revolutionary dream France without Maximilien Robbespiere.

Anyway, many - if not all - historical paralells seem to be limping on one leg ... including the one according to which Ben's realm after the split was some kind of a New North Korea. Or South Talossa being some revolutionary dream France without Maximilien Robbespiere. I think that this is the inherent nature of historical parallels. They never quite fit right, no matter which one you use or how you might remix them. To speak of the two Talossas as the Reunison of South Korea and West Germany may indeed be a workable way of talking about it, but that doesn't settle the issue of how we might go about celebrating Calondâ Gün. I, for one, am a big fan of the toasting idea from early Georgia's history (if only as an excuse to get a touch sozzled). Perhaps a panel of former Presidents could judge the toasts for Talossanity and Pretention? Then a parade led by the Fíeux del Revoluziun cundignheu, a sort of "Sons of Liberty" organization that specializes in funny hats and civic pride. Or perhaps a Talossan Opera adapted from "A Nation Sundered?"

That would require someone to sing the Mad Ben part. Deet, you've got a beard and you can sing, it'll probably be you.

If the Americans can convert their Constitution into an opera to celebrate the centennial, I think we can do better within our own operatix tradition.
