"Lights Out: San Francisco-Voco presents the soul of the Bay Area". Two LP set. Apparently Voco was a popluar San Fran DJ/Producer. Very diverse and enjoyable selection of tunes, ranging from Indian raga to American electric blues. Good stuff.

I can always tell I've had maybe a bit too much currency when I start pulling the Neil Diamond albums out. (Sort of have a thing for them. Mom was a huge Neil fan, so I grew up having to listen to Neil tapes everytime we went for a drive anywhere.) So, I've gone from Voco to "The Jazz Singer", the soundtrack to a film I've never seen. But I somehow would love to see it, despite the awful reviews. Especially after hearing the "Ooh Baby Baby Now" song. It ends with what is apparently dialogue from the film, a guy shouting "He ain't no brother! Its a white boy! Get 'em!" So I have visions of Neil Diamond in blackface. That alone would be worth the price of admission.

So many Neil Diamond songs are about the most random and mundane things that I can't help but think he can't get through breakfast without writing a little song about it. I find that oddly endearing.
