"Tentative seat distribution: MN 65.5, CLP 43, OTP 6.5" Let's see: 4 CLP votes = 43 seats, but 3 MN votes = 65.5 seats??? What is this, the New Math? IM

> Let's see: 4 CLP votes = 43 seats, but 3 MN votes = 65.5 seats This is where EM200 breaks down with very low turnouts. Expect to see at least another 20 votes cast. With numbers like those, the seat distribution will be much, much closer to true. I should add (at the risk of having charges of anti-Americanism hurled at me) that if 4 people voted for Bush in Wyoming and 3 people vote for Kerry in California, and nobody else in America voted, Kerry would be President. Each province [state] is entitled to its fair share of seats [electoral votes] no matter how many people vote. That's putting it as simply as I can. Ben

I *did* have a there, BTW. (there's another one) I guess I didn't realize fully that the RT had adopted the US Electoral College system. It also means it's not a good idea to have all your supporters in one province. I like the old days when provincial assignment didn't mean anything in terms of "national" elections. Oh well...

> I guess I didn't realize fully that the RT had adopted the US Electoral College system.
Actually I hadn't realized the similarities till today... I'll have to ask Wes if that helped inspire him!
> It also means it's not a good idea to have all your supporters in one province.
Picking up Geoff in Atatürk helps you; we'll have to see what other provinces come on board. I've heard rumblings in Maricopa too. But you're right, a large number of supporters in a small province is a bad combination. Vuode will be a landslide for the MN but has more people. The real battle will be fought out in the other provinces, as the CLP and the MN both seem to have natural "heartlands".
Weirdly, a lot of this happened by pure chance: Fritz was supposed to be assigned to Atatürk and Jason to Vuode, but both those provinces are already too big, so they were shifted (by law) to the next province on the list, which is Maritiimi-Maxhestic.

Didn't you vote for it at the 2003 Living Cosâ? I can't remember...

> Indeed... we'll have to see what happen as the other Ridings come in! Durnit, we should have called them "ridings." That is such a cool name! "District" has got to be the most boring... Britain has "constituencies," Australia has "electoral divisions" (not grouped into electoral corps, however)... not sure about other English-speaking countries. But since Talossa's legislature is divvied up by Provinces I guess we really can't call them anything other than Provinces. > "... as the CLP and the MN both seem to have natural 'heartlands.'" Ahem... the CLP has a HERTZENLAND!! Or, a HEIMATLAND, if you prefer. Don't forget, your Cosâ vote is also your provincial vote... so get ready to reclaim power in Maritiimi-Maxhestic and bring back all the old terminology! >> "Weirdly, a lot of this happened by pure chance: Fritz was supposed to be assigned to Atatürk and Jason to Vuode, but both those provinces are already too big, so they were shifted (by law) to the next province on the list, which is Maritiimi-Maxhestic." >"Pure chance," huh? Officially, Canada has "electoral districts", however most people call them "ridings".
