I wouldn't say it is. Their menu just seems off, like an American take on Italian food rather than actual Italian food.
I've just checked their menu, and they have a weird obsession with putting chicken everywhere, which you wouldn't normally find on pasta or anywhere else than on its own really. Similar story for shrimp, which they apparently offer in a variety of dishes. But, for example, "the" typical seafood pasta dish in Italy would have clams and mussels, which I can't see anywhere.
They also sell a lot of dishes that have both a primo (a pasta dish) and a secondo (a meat/fish dish) on the same plate, which is generally a no-no, like spaghetti with meatballs.
(Also, don't quote me on this, but I've never seen eggplant parmesan in Italy.)
I was being a bit silly with that previous comment, but I appreciate being enlightened nonetheless.

I always thought of Olive Garden the same way I think of Panda Express (American Chinese cuisine) or the like -- food inspired by a country of origin and then crammed with as much oil and sugar as possible. Hypercapitalist obesity is the real ethnicity of that food.

Traditional Scottish fare is more game and fish based. Is the "game" being able to figure out how much cat food went into the haggis? (I KID! I KID BECAUSE I LOVE!)

Lollycakes and hangi-cooked fish! Just need to be turned into fast food at a new Waitangi-on-the-Go. Oh, of course there's Māori cuisine. White New Zealanders tend to eat whatever processed crap is popular in Britain or the States. But even there I was exaggerating: McDonald's features a Kiwi Burger which has a slice of beetroot in it. That's it. I'm still shaking my head at the idea that deep-fried pizza isn't a culinary no-no in Italy, but spaghetti and meatballs together is.

Around here, Taco Bell is after-bar food. You get sloppy drunk, then eat Taco Bell and regret it in the morning.

I'm still shaking my head at the idea that deep-fried pizza isn't a culinary no-no in Italy, but spaghetti and meatballs together is. There's a reason for both, though: deep-fried pizza was introduced in Southern Italy during WWII because you could then use lower quality stuff and still eat it. I *think* spaghetti and meatballs was created by immigrants in NYC because American had no concept of different courses, but don't quote me on that. I guess our equivalent would be Döner kebab then

I'll take advantage of this thread to plug my own favourite pasta dish, bigoli in salsa. People need to know about the power of the bigolo.

I love that meme. Too bad the Yugoslav wars were one of the most tragic events of the last century. (Also, don't quote me on this, but I've never seen eggplant parmesan in Italy.) I am right now quoting you, sorry, but — eh? I have seen (melanzane alla) parmigiana in Italy, and Wikipedia says: You're completely right and I had a brainfart. I think I saw an unrelated picture while looking it up and thought "Hey, I've never seen this"... while entirely forgetting what a parmigiana is.

I love that meme. Too bad the Yugoslav wars were one of the most tragic events of the last century. I have a black sense of humour, and one of my wife's colleagues at work is a lovely lady who happens to be Serbian. When she gets annoyed with the boss and starts mobilising (as she often does) I ask Patriciâ: "did she put on a beret and start playing an accordian?" Anyway, I like this classical remix of the meme.
