I'm familiar with the rules, but I thought the white outline around the black (findumbriation?) would take care of that issue. Was it not thick enough?

Yes that is the problem as far as I can tell.

I'm familiar with the rules, but I thought the white outline around the black (findumbriation?) would take care of that issue. Was it not thick enough? No, because the center stripe is white. There has to be contrast in all areas. www.kingdomoftalossa.net/index.cgi?lingo=&page=ArmsRulesII. 4. Contrast – All armory must have sufficient contrast to allow each element of the design to be clearly identifiable at a distance. ( It goes on from there...)

And the findumbriation is considered an element?

I asked the King, and his comments are as such:
"The Albatross cannot be fimbriated. Fimbriation and voiding can only be applied to simple geometric charges."
I would like to defer to The Jolly Good Fellow for further comments on this CoA, for the time being.

True; it's right there in the Rules, section II.5.a.

Poking my head in here --
For the kind of thing being done here, we would want to make sure that more than half of the charge is not in violation of the rule of tincture. It has been suggested by the King that, if the petitioner is amenable to it, perhaps the argent pale can become a cross (a big white plus-sign) so that a bit more of the black albatross can be sure of being in contrast. Those parts of it that still would rest on green and blue would yet be difficult to discern from their background at a distance, but if more than half of the charge is in contrast, the rule of tincture is satisfied.
As far as the attitude of the charge itself, "rampant" is not an attitude that applies to a bird (only to four-legged animals). The attitude of the charge as depicted would be (I believe -- unless that whole thing at the left is not its tail feathers, but rather its wings raised?) "trussed contourney".

The bit on the left is indeed the upraised wings. It is an attitude I like (as if about to take flight). I am amenable to a cross as well.
