The University of Talossa welcomes Eðo Grischun, who has accepted the Regent's invitation to become Athletics Director for the University. As Athletics Director, S:reu Grischun will be responsible for all sports activities of the University.

I am sure Eðo will do a great job in this post, and see to it that our University's undefeated record in intercollegiate athletics continues.

What current intercollegiate athletic programs are available for participation or observation?
Congratulations on your appointment. Do you plan to add any new programs?

What current intercollegiate athletic programs are available for participation or observation? We don't have any that I know of. I fully expect the new Athletics Director will come up with something to direct.

What current intercollegiate athletic programs are available for participation or observation? We don't have any that I know of. This is how we preserve our undefeated record. However, the main campus of the University does have a full and active set of intercollegiate athletics. They insist upon calling themselves the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and we insist upon letting them. Just to be stubbornly different from the extension campus (run more directly by the Regent, who has delegated the administration of their campus to others, preferring — and who can blame him? — to concentrate on the campus that is open to Talossan citizens only), they also insist on naming their mascot the Panthers rather than the Fighting Squirrels. That's probably why they are not as undefeated as the other branch of the U. Hool

I bring it up here only because this seems to be where discussions about UTal's Athletic Department seem to be taking place.
While I wholeheartedly agree with Director Grischun's recommendation that the Department's Coat of Arms include symbols for the proposed Futbol and Cycling teams, I believe it prudent and necessary that an Undefeated Team be created as well.
Futbol and cycling teams are exciting, yes. However, while these innovative proposals will bring UTal into the new age of intercollegiate sporting, it is important for us to maintain our collegiate traditions, one of which (as Lord Hooligan so effectively pointed out), is being undefeated.
I feel that as Squirrels it is our responsibility to display sportsmanship, and that includes occasionally feigning defeat for the sake of the self-esteem of our opponents, who would otherwise be prone to systematic bedwetting at the mere sound of a squirrel cry. If we're going to have have teams in sports that are conventionally competitive, that's fine, but we should grant athletes fated to play for Cestour schools the pittance of at least thinking they have a chance.
However, a team specifically designated as the Undefeated Team would not be bound to such notions of chivalry, and would be able to carry on the noble Squirrel tradition of being "undefeated, at large".

Vit,
Thanks for your comments. I think we all work best when working off each other. I am still in the planning stages of all this...
The idea behind the Arms of the department is that they reflect the department as a whole and as such would display a "symbol of Talossan Athleticism". The squirrel symbol I feel would be better suited to the Arms of the Futbol team. However, I will yield to popular opinion and if it is advised to me that a squirrel be the overall logo then it shall be so.
The 'sub-groups', for lack of a better term, within the department (football, cycling) is an idea of mine to allow the department to be a medium for Talossan Citizens to show off their 'international' sporting endeavours. I hope the list of University teams grow.
For example, the Cycling Team as I hear only has one member, the team captain. The team's webpage will display photos of his "team bike" adorned in red and green, updates of time trials perhaps.
I hear there are archers around? Perhaps they could be doing the same. Bring their club to the University and update their Archery Team page with photos of their "Talossified" sports equipment.
This is just the surface. There will be a lot more to it.
but, the idea is that the department has Arms for each permanent team. The cyclists have a wheel, say, and the archers have an bullseye, say. Come to think of it, perhaps the main arms should be a squirrel. A Futbol team could have a Futbol.
I'm also thinking that the department could do a webpage with "Frat house" drinking games. Perhaps, Hool would be kind enough to allow the department to display his own created game on such a page.

I agree, we shall always be undefeated. I can see future news updates of a certain team captain faking falls off his bike to intentionally lose races so to boost the morale of opposing teams or to lull them into false senses of security.

The College of Arms has pointed out that the department is not entitled to actual Arms, and so should have logos and whatnot instead. It was suggested that the Art department come up with logos, however, the Art department isn't in full swing yet, so if the Regent permits, I will work on this myself as an intra-departmental issue. Also, if Fellow Lundescu from the College permits, could I continue using your yellow/red/cyan scheme for the Athletic department's artwork?
