Good members of the Nimlet -- In light of the recent activity of our sister province Vuode to redesign its provincial flag, with the accompanying discussion of heraldic propriety of flags in general, I rise to petition the Nimlet to consider a similar project for our own beloved province. Our current provincial flag is a hodgepodge of rule violations, and yet contains a very beautiful element, and I beg leave to propose that the Nimlet take notice of the following simplification of our flag, and if it sees fit to do so, submit the same to the College of Arms for approval as use for the new flag of our province. This flag would be blazoned Azure three barrulets enhanced or.The design is simple, clean, unique, and pays homage to our history by its retention of the legal parts of our current flag. The parts of the current flag which violate good design principles (and which make for a confusing and difficult-to-create banner) would be eliminated. It would also (importantly) be doggone easy for the Royal Seamstress and Archivist S:da Brainerd to manufacture this newly simplified flag for us. I ask the Nimlet to sit and consider this request before the end of the current Cosâ, if for no other reason than that our sister province Vuode won't be the only one getting anything done. Respectfully submitted, Hooligan A proud Florenciân

I am extremely happy to see other provinces following Vuode's lead. Good luck to you.

It's about time we did something. After all we are the province with the most citizens. Maybe even the most active citizens? Maybe not.
As for the flag. It looks kind of empty, as if it is missing something. Perhaps that is only because I am accustomed to the other. I think I like the proposed design better though. What is the history of our flag? I don't think I've ever heard anything about it, and I couldn't find anything about it on the website. I always like to choose this type of thing based on its significance rather than merely its aesthetic qualities.

Yes, the draft flag is definitely shorn of its less attractive (to my eye) elements, leaving it rather, well, blue where those elements had been. I was thinking if anything be added beneath, to de-blue some of it, the choice should be something that reflects feminine leadership in honour of the Queen of our nation for whom our great province was named. I thought maybe a single five-pointed star, but of course then you could wrap the flag around your arm and be mistaken for a Commander in the United States Navy. I'm with you, though, liking the barren blue quite a bit.

Given the name of your province, you might consider a fleur-de-lis florencée — the particular type of fleur-de-lis featured on the arms of Florence, Italy (and also known as a "fleur-de-lis flowering" or "Florentine lily"). Or some other kind of blossom, even.

Even though I am not a resident of this province I just wanted to say that draft pictured above is really beautiful.

Sir Cresti's suggestion that if anything be added it might be the Florentine lily, in honour of Queen Florence of Talossa, for whom our province was named, led me to create the image below, for the consideration of the Nimlet. This flag would be blazoned Azure a fleur-de-lis florencée and in chief three barrulets or.Looking forward to the action of the Nimlet on this issue, I am Hooligan

In reply to the the e-mails, I think that the Azure a fleur-de-lis florencée and in chief three barrulets or
could be done with a silk screen, But is there anyway we could do some white, the flag seems a little dark, or silver....

Having made it obvious in e-mail that I don't know the difference between sewing and embroidering, I am not about to try to figure out what silk screening is. So I will stick to posting graphics (like the one below) and hope that if the Nimlet approves any of them, the Royal Seamstress will easily be able to crochet the thing, or knit one up, or work it up in needlepoint, or whatever. Here (below) is a draft with the fleur-de-lis done in argent (silver or white). I am reluctant to change the tinture of the barrulets, as their colour (and that of the blue field) are maintained from our current flag. Making the fleur-de-lis white as suggested, however, does pull back a bit more of the current flag, since the elements that are beneath the bars on the current flag do incorporate white. This flag would be blazoned Azure a fleur-de-lis florencée argent and in chief three barrulets or.Hail Florenciâ! Hooligan

It looked a lot better when it was gold, it just doesn't have the same flare as it did before...

One, Dreu get out your not a Florenciân, and two I thought white strips would be better, Starting from the top between the gold so we have 3 white and 3 gold. I like the lilly darker. Or do we have black in there? It's hard to tell, but I think it needs some white strips
