Over my years of being a Citizen of Talossa, I have heard a few things about Robert Ben Madison, the Founder of Talossa, and Former King. Although Robert is the founder of this Nation, we all love and treasure, Roberts actions in the past has shaped and scarred Talossa into what it has become.
Whilst the months before the Abdication from what I can tell, seems to be some of the darkest in our history, look at what we have become now. All based on Roberts dreams and ideas that founded the basis of what we have taken cared of and grown into what Talossa has become now.
Don’t get me wrong, I think that Roberts actions in the past in the events which lead to his abdication, we abhorrent and against the ideals we now hold as a Nation, so this is not a statement of support for Robert, and fundamentally is not a statement of support.
In saying this, Talossa is a welcoming, forgiving, accepting and caring community of Citizens, all striving to a greater tomorrow for our nation, and to out of hand reject the premise of reinstating the citizenship of Robert, I do believe is against the values we hold as a nations, and against the rights and protections we have built into our constitution and bill of rights. No matter what personal or political disagreements you once had with Robert, he has, seemingly sincerely re-applied to join Talossa, and for better or worse, we should hear him out with an open mind.
However, based on Roberts past actions, we would be remiss to let Robert in without certain protections for Talossa, most of all, not just the word from Robert that he will not now, or ever seek to hold political office of any kind, but a law, or constitutional amendment if needed, to make it legally impossible for this to be issue. As although we can forgive the actions of the past, and accepting Robert back into Talossa, is something that is in line with our values, we must still look to the safety and security of the Nation, and without having legal protections in place, to prevent the past repeating itself, and Robert accepting those legal protections being implemented, Talossa would remain at risk from an individual who has already shown a danger to the nation. Re admitting him without protections would be folly and negligent of the country.
This is an issue that won’t be easy to address, due to the reasons stated above, and any more that, due to my not being around at the time, I cannot, and should not comment on, as I do not have all the facts, and I wasn’t part of Talossa at the time. But we should not go about this with personal vendettas, hatred, mistrust, and prejudice, but with an open, but cautious mind. And above all, what we must do, is protect the values, and bonds we share as Talossan’s, as we may have disagreements politically, but the bonds we share, because of Talossa, is part of the fabric of Talossa, and the values I have mentioned in this statement, and many more values not listed here, is what makes Talossa what it is today, and that is something above all we must keep in out mind, and not forget or put this at risk, especially for the sake of one individual.
Even though Robert created Talossa, it has become much bigger than what he initially created. And is not worth risking everything Talossan’s before me have done to build this country into what it is today, and what we love and are proud to be a part of. So, I would say that we need to proceed with caution, however not out of hate, or bitterness from past misdeeds. But for the love we have and share for Talossa, and in the spirit of moving forward, and forgiveness, that is what we should embrace.
I know this is vague, but I cannot attest to the events which happened before I came to Talossa, I only are about protecting what we have now, and the values we all share as Talossan’s, which should not be forgotten in all of this.
Anyway, this is my thoughts on this matter, and thought it would be good to share them.
